We are imagining getting the train to Barcelona mid september and travelling around a bit (Bilbao, Madrid etc)then coming back earl October. Filling in online bookings with sncf returns no results. Is this because it is too far into the future or are they trying to get me to book at the travel agents?

It's too early.

You'll need to set a reminder so it emails you when tickets are available

Might I suggest taking a look here:

Mountains of info and well worth a read. But yeah, Sas is right, too early.

Any reason why you're not flying?

Very excited for you. Come back and let us know how it goes.

I've just booked the TGV from here (Milan) to Paris on our way home from summer in 3 weeks. Can't wait!

Caz, flying is gay. There are queues and security and you have to check in etc. etc. For long haul fine, but for Europe it's no fun.

ear canal problems for herself rule out flights. I like the idea of acclimatising to the culture as we will take short journeys. Got 3 weeks make the most of it eh?

there's a nasty pressure drop on the Eurostar as well, I find it incredibly painful when travelling on it :(
