Hmm, he does point out where he sees the competition is getting it wrong. I don't think he has said that Android won't be popular though. There were probably not yet 100 Honeycomb apps for Android. After all how long has it been out? Not sure how long it will take them to get up to Apple's 65,000 iPad apps but it will take a while, several months at least. (I know that tablets run phone apps too but it can be argued that they are not "true" tablet apps).

The handful of people I know in real life who would care about such things (as apposed to on this forum), bought Android because it was cheaper - get an HTC Desire free with the contract. All have admitted they would have gone with an iPhone had they had the money. For those people I know (again in real life rather than this forum) who wouldn't care about such things, didn't buy Apple because of the price. The Android/BlackBerry/bog standard phone/etc. came free with their contract, they are just happy it looks good and can do X. While I acknowledge that there are people out there that buy Android because it isn't Apple, I think these are people who probably aren't your average consumer. It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Apple gave away iPhone's with contracts.

I'll openly admit I'd trade my Android handset for an iPhone 4, and I'm a Google person.

It won't happen till Apple manage to get production up to demand. I can't see it happening any time soon.

And I know people who bought iphone 3gs only because there was nothing comparable to it at the time, even 12 months ago. but as soon as they saw phones like Desire and Galaxy S they said that's what they'll be getting on their next upgrade... Not everybody who bought iphone will buy it again. And the tide has changed, Androids outsell iphones. Quiz question: and do you know what manufacturer sold the most smartphones in the UK in december? I bet you don't

No, wait. I know this one. It doesn't begin with "a"... No, nearly got it - it's on the tip of my tongue...

It’s OK to like Android. We’ll still accept you here.

I dunno, but this site might tell me - http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/jan/31/android-symbian-smartphone-salesYes, yes it does - but it also tells me Apple handset sales dropped by 0.3%, despite the big rise in Android ownership. Seems the vast majority of iPhone owners are sticking with them.

So it must be that newcomers are all getting androids. No? Android is building momentum, surely it won't stop any time soon. Any guess what its share will be in 12 months?

That's the acid test. Whilst the iPhone is apparently maintaining a user base, will the same be said for Android or is Windows Mobile 7(?) or a new iPhone going to change that?

What can new iphone do to change that? How much can you really change it? There is nothing wrong with the physical handset itself (well, maybe the anthena ) When I look at the sales I see android selling 2x as many phones. Unless the apple changes it philosophy I don't think it will change in its advantage, it will only get worse...

Probably Blackberry. They do sell a lot of phones still.

That is correct, I don't think many people would expect that...

Is there any one particular Android handset outselling the iPhone? Given that Android is on umpteen devices. Would be interesting to know.
