Is this one for the fail thread? I voted no in the AV vote then did the local election form. I'd just sat down in the car when I thought "Why the hell did I just write numbers in the boxes?"!

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Ah, but if you ask two people if they are intelligent, they'll both say say. The first because they are and they know it, the second because the aren't, but are too stupid to realise.

I voted yes, of course.
I fear that our politics is going the way of the americans - the money that has been spent on the no campaign is clear to see. There are massive bill-boards everywhere around here, and it must have cost a fortune.
I've had a few colour, glossy leaflets delivered through the door from the no campaign as well as a stamped, addressed one. It must have cost them a fortune.
Meanwhile, I've seen a couple of A4 posters in the windows of people's houses, and a badly photo-copied piece of A5 paper in black and white for the yes campaign.
I think it's sad, and would really like to see legislation which tightly controls the amount of money that is spent on campaigns.
I think that each option in the referendum should have been given an equal amount of money from public funds, for them to do what they wish with. No money from other sources, I think it can only corrupt the system.

We also "wrote numbers in boxes" for our local election. I have no idea if they're going to use AV or FPTP or maybe they have to do the AV referendum first before they decide As I think I may have said, I voted for AV. Far from perfect, but a step in the right direction. The primary benefit being the end of tactical voting, which is just a perverse form of lying necessitated by a completely broken system.

I had a bit of a problem... I hadn't been sent a polling card, and when I went down to the polling station they had me down as Alan Lavery, the previous tenant was called Alan Evans, and somehow they mixed up our names... After some debate and a couple of phone calls I was given the go ahead to have a vote. I voted yes to AV I've got my fingers crossed now.

Early results indicate FPTP will prevail. It will be interesting to see how London deals with it, they only had a vote on AV and it wasn't compounded by local elections. 50,000 yes to 145,000 no so far.
A full and proper debate on PR? In my lifetime? Probably not.

AV I could tolerate, PR I could not. We'd always have hung parliaments. The Lib Dems would always hold the balance of power because I can't ever see Labour and the Tories forming a coalition.
Don't get me wrong PR is the fairest system out there on paper. It's also unworkable as a form of government. Dodgy politicians doing dodgy deals behind closed doors all the time.

Which is, of course, a million miles from where we are today.

Not sure there's actually any evidence to suggest we'd have more than what we're going to have with FPTP TBH. I doubt the LD would hold the balance (only if Labour were the choice of partner in the future, voters won't vote for them again with the chance of a Tory coalition). The Greens and other parties would gain a fairer showing. Mind you, the more I think about it the more I think you should have an IQ test before you can vote. I mean FFS, even when the question was 'yes' or 'no' thousands still managed to mess up their ballot. Perhaps the majority are too thick for democracy. Oh crap, I'm thinking like a politician now.

Currently watching the ticker of votes on BBC news.. It's looking like roughly 66% No.

I think the 'closest' was 61% no, 39% yes. After today DC will no doubt think he can do what he wants and be Thatcher MkII. We'll all be doomed then.
