Swiss German is god damn awful. Austrian German is not much better and German spoken in northern parts of Italy is just bizarre. German, spoken by Germans, sounds poetic and gentle by comparison.

Apologies all, it was either keep busy here or face clearing up my badly formatted and commented code today... I think you know which was more fun

Nope. The Titanic has sunk, and it's going to be next Thursday before Rob Ballard gets Alvin down there to see if it'll float again.

hello, thought I'd pop in.
I have a question too.
Whats happening about the other forums, like PC Pro and Mac User, because last I saw, they were down too.
Is it the end of all Dennis forums?
Can't imagine the PC Pro and Mac ppl will be very happy.

Welcome to x404 Cerberus! Dennis have taken the sites down for a week. When they come back up the old forums will be there (PC Pro and Mac User for instance), however they won't be connected via a shared Meeting Place and Comments forum...

We're not. That's why some of us are over here now. As I understand it, PCP and MU forums will be live again at the end of the month. However, the bit that's annoyed us most, and directly resulted in the setting up of this new forum, was that the Comments and Meeting Place would no longer be a shared space. So, while MU will have Comments and MP forums, only MU members get to post in it. PCP members won't even see responses to posts made before the shutdown, and vice versa. It's a shambles, and I doubt many of us will be going back to the Dennis forums next week, at least not for any length of time.

I for one won't be going back. if the forums are not shared I dont see the point. The whole fun of it was so many people with different interests. I totally agree with your Heather.
Heather for PM!! lol

Agree absolutely with the two ladies above. The whole point for me was that the Meeting Place spanned the diversity of interests and people of the Dennis IT empire. I'm glad to see all the old familiar 'faces' here and hope we can sustain this because I enjoy it all though not a frequent poster. There is a genuine sense of community here and it is one of very very few forums I visit regularly.
Richard.

You're not, but several other people on the MU forum sounded quite pleased about it. I'd be interested in Marklar's honest opinion. Did he enjoy jousting with Gav, or was it a mere irritation to his superior intellect?! I think some people are too serious... but they probably think I'm frivolous

I can still remember the halcyon days they refer to, when MacUser had a forum and it was alone in the void. The change to shared forums was a real culture shock to the older members, and some never really got over it. Their loss, to be honest with you. Like the other Macolytes who've signed on here, we enjoyed the community of varied ages, interests and educational abililty and want to see it continue more or less as it was. Mac users will always be a minority round here, but I reckon we can punch above our weight when we need to - and we've usually got thick enough skulls to not be put out by blatant flame bait. I'm looking forward to this new community exceeding the one it replaced. We've made a good start, and the stable base of the Dennis regulars should help it to grow and thrive. All thanks to Saspro. * pencils Saspro into first new year honours list after becoming PM *
