I see, thanks guys.

A guy who used to come swimming when I worked as a lifeguard had a swastika tattooed on his arm and neck (IIRC) but strangely enough seemed like a really nice chap.

He may have had a tat done when he was a teenager and full of anger and bovver boots, egged on by his mates. Most people mature out of that kind of thought process, but if you've indelibly marked your skin you're kind of stuck with it. I guess some people do some remarkably daft things when they're young and impressionable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

It's an ancient symbol, for luck.

those naughty Nazis took it and twisted it through 45 degrees, changing its meaning in the process.

Actually, it wasn't. Sorry if it read that way.

You're old enough to know your own mind. Impressionable youngsters who find themselves among stronger minded company may live to regret their decisions.

I recall it was a fashion at my secondary school for the "hardnuts" to tattoo themselves with a biro and compasses. The knuckles were favourite. Muppets.

That's ok Heather, as you say, I'm old enough (and ugly enough, as my mum would say) to make my own mind up.

Is this as permanent as a 'proper' tattoo? Or will this eventully dissapear as the skin is renewed?

I used to be a pin badge in Scouting, it signified loyalty or charity IIRC...

It was pretty permanent, and must have upset their chances of decent work until it had faded.

Admittedly, it was only one or two who did it.

Gad, we're talking over thirty years ago now! Let's hope their silliness has faded, or dealt with through medical means.

Essex County Council’s offices in Chelmsford has a portion of stone work made up of them. We have a copy of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories which has one on the spine. It was quite fashionable until Hitler got his hands on it.

I am at a loss to understand why you wanted it. However I wish the two of you a long and happy life together.

I've had my eyebrow pierced on two occasions, in the same place. My body pushed it out pretty rapidly both times.

It migrated to the point were I felt I had to take it out before it got ripped out or scarred badly within a year both times. :?

I want to get some tattoos at some point. I really want to join the RAF, so if I do manage it then I'll get some tattoos mapping out my career! :D

Thank you CC, I would explain why I decided to get this tattoo but I'm not sure it would have any bearings on your opinion.

I've seen some particularly good and interesting tattoos representing various positions in the armed forces. There was a point to me saying that, but I started talking to a colleague half way through typing thing, and I forget what it is.

I'm slightly confused. Did they get the word Muppets tattooed on their knuckles, or was it pictures of their favourite muppets?
