That reminds me, I haven't logged into Facebook for over a month...

I don't know why, but I never really got into Facebook. Twitter sits at the side of my screen and gives me constant updates, but I log into Facebook when I don't have anything else to do. Since I have bought a house and have been renovating it since the beginning of the year, there is always something to do. I think I've maybe checked in once or twice since December.

Facebook never really appealed. It is too random. I like the x404 forum and I like following the few people I follow on Twitter, it is a create "newsfeed" and a way of getting some quick answers... Facebook seems to merge the worst of each form of communication, plus adds constant spam about games and quizzes...

The fact that they are now allowing anyone who wants access to my data to have it. I might simply just delete all the relevant information.

Any previous changes you have made to the settings for your family, relationships and photo/video tags are unchanged. These will appear in the new "Friends, Tags and Connections" section of your privacy settings. The settings for anything that is now in the "Personal Information and Posts" section, such as birthday, religious and political views and who's allowed to post on your Wall, are also unchanged.

Today, Facebook removed its users' ability to control who can see their own interests and personal information. Certain parts of users' profiles, "including your current city, hometown, education and work, and likes and interests" will now be transformed into "connections," meaning that they will be shared publicly. If you don't want these parts of your profile to be made public, your only option is to delete them.

The example Facebook uses in its announcement is a page for "Cooking." Previously, you could list "cooking" as an activity you liked on your profile, but your name would not be added to any formal "Cooking" page. (Under the old system, you could become a "fan" of cooking if you wanted). But now, the new Cooking page will publicly display all of the millions of people who list cooking as an activity.

Cooking is not very controversial or privacy-sensitive, and thus makes for a good example from Facebook's perspective. Who would want to conceal their interest in cooking? Of course, the new program will also create public lists for controversial issues, such as an interest in abortion rights, gay marriage, marijuana, tea parties and so on.
