Not really. At least Jonathan Ross knew what he was talking about and had an enthusiasm for the subject matter. While the Barry Norman format was retained for the Jonathan Ross era of the programme, they were very different presenters with their own unique interests in the subject and each one had very different knowledge concerning film. The Claudia Winkleman era of the programme has not only changed format but also considerably dumbed down the content. I watched a few eps of it last year and just totally gave up on it. It may still be relevant for some people, but I'm not one of them. Mark

Yeah, and I fall in the 'I Like It' group. Stylistically interesting, an interesting story, and oh yes, Charlize Theron in lycra.

I has those things going for it and some interesting actors in supporting roles. However the plot makes no sense at all. I (for some reason) lump it in my head with Equilibrium and Ultraviolet, but it's a better genre movie than either of those.

Haven't seen it (though I've got a cheeky copy someone gave me). Equilibrium was pretty dull (spose the name was a clue!) and I gave up on UV.

And in no way a blatant attempt to get people who otherwise wouldn't give the show a second glance to watch out of misplaced geek loyalty.

Broadchurch and Mayday. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-enter ... 19894.html I agree with most of the points raised in the Indy review. When they write these things the story is called a fiction. Is that why there are glitches in the matrix, to reinforce this concept? e.g. 11 year old with a paper round in Broadchurch and the quick and dirty password hacking son in Mayday.

Generally, you should be watching 'The Last Leg' on Channel 4. Bit of background - the show was originally part of C4's paralympics coverage, a late night humorous roundup show themed around the day's events, with relevant guests. It's USP was the host Adam Hills has a false foot and one of the co-hosts Alex Brooker also has physical disabilities, along with comedian Josh Widdicombe who represented (on the show at least) the 'normal minority'. So they covered the days sport and general issues surrounding the paralympics in a funny way and could talk with some authority about how people's disabilities affect them in daily life as well as athletic performance. The thing was - it turned out to be brilliant. Not at all the 'tokenist' show you might expect it to be. It turned out to just be funny because the hosts are just funny, while at the same time kicking down a few taboos - they had a section called 'is it OK?' in which people could tweet questions about disability which normally they might be too embarrassed to ask. Brooker and Hills (who is an Australian) had a bet that whoever's nation won the least medals would have to paint their prosthetic with the flag of the other nation. It was probably the break out TV success of the whole Olympic summer. So they kept it. Nowadays it's more current affairs obviously but the formula works just as well. Hills, Brooker and Widdicombe work as a team and it's still doing as much as any show in the UK to raise the profile of the disabled population. It's political without being pompous, subversive without being arch and occasionally just downright compulsive - Hill's rant last week about Joan Rivers being abusive about Adele is a better, more principled piece of polemic than any politician has managed in years. It's half an hour you'll watch and not only feel happy you did but feel you might just be a slightly better person than when it started. A good starter for the list - two weeks ago when Jenna-Louise Coleman was on.
