Well I got one on Saturday and basically I’m loving it..... Took a bit of messing about with to get it all looking and working the way I wanted (but that’s half the fun). The only thing I would say I'm not overly impressed with is battery life but its early day so we will see what it's like once I stop picking it up for a play every 2 mins. The guy in the shop also warned me it took about 6 charges for the battery to work to its full potential.

The Vodafone model comes with free sat nav and you can add a free app for voice instruction if that’s any use to you.
Android. Download Advanced Task Killer Free. It stops apps running in the background when you've finished with them.

yup got that, and was the reason why I was a little on the drag this morning at it stopped my alarm going off.... got it setup probably now though and along with the power control widget so I can quickly turn off the wifi etc, I should see some positive results.

Instead of sending me the nice unlocked model I ordered, the [LIFTED] have sent a locked orange handset (they were running two concurrent listings, and sent me the wrong one)! :x

Yours,

L_U, who is about to spend a fortune on an unlock code...

Dell have just released their Aero Android 'phones in America... With 2.2 out for a couple of months now and 3.0 looming on the horizon, they have launched the Aero with Android 1.5 installed ... :?

According to PCPro, they have updated it to 2.2 now

You have to wonder what the hell they were thinking by not releasing the phone without the latest OS on it. Especially using 1.5 as the Streak has 1.6 on it.

No, what they said was: the Aero is being released with Android v 1.5. In the meantime, Android itself has been updated to 2.2. ;)

I was reading up on rumours of the Desire HD today. Probably going to be the size of the HD2 and come with 2.2 or 3.0. Might make me rethink that iPhone4 contract upgrade.

Either way, Dell are grade A morons for this decision.

A friend of mine has updated his HTC G1 (the original Android phone) to 2.2 and says that the performance increase over 2.1 is marked, it makes the phone usable again.

So far I've found a few small changes between 2.1 and 2.2, but they all make for a better experience.

Just reading the round-up of the Android tablets at the IDF last week.

One thing that I find confusing is that most of them won't be able to access the Android store - the Samsung Galaxy will, but also has the Samsung marketplace. The Toshiba Folio won't be able to access the Android store, only Toshiba's own store, which Toshiba will fill with custom applications which are specially converted to make use of the higher resolution display, and Toshiba will release their own SDK for developers... :?

I really don't understand the point. Why do we need a Samsung and a Toshiba store for apps, which aren't available to other Android devices and which don't have apps from the main Android store...

At least with iTunes, when I buy a new iOS device, I plug it in and all the apps I've bought are automatically available for installing on the new device (well, some iPad apps won't scale back to iPhone/iPod, but they scale in the other direction).

But if I have a Desire and buy a Toshiba Folio, all those Apps I bought for the Desire are not available and I will have to buy them again - if Toshiba or the developer have re-written it for this new Android device, and what I buy for the Folio won't work on my Desire...
