I think it's fair to say that Germany just demolished Australia.

Adrian Chiles was saying for Australia are part of the world cup now (as in you expect them to qulaify) and they do well. Edgar Davids said in reply 'errrr..... they do ok' in obvious disagreement. Brilliant.

Although Germany played well Australia didn't do much to help themselves. For much of the match they hoofed the ball up to Cahill who isn't exactly the tallest player in the world. If they wanted to employ that tactic I'm not sure why they didn't put on a player my aussie mate reliably informs me is 'as tall as Crouch with a big beard'. Anyway, with Cahill getting sent off that's put pay to any hope Australia had of qualifying. I'm not sure on the current rules but a red card will mean he misses at least the next match. I imagine they may appeal but the tackle did actually look worse on second viewing, mind you they all do when slowed down. I must say I liked the cheeky Aussie Rules knee in the back by O'Neill when going for a header at the start of the 2nd half.

One match ban for a red card. Two for a second red and so on. I don't know about the yellow cards it will probably be 3 for a match ban.
that pretty much applies to the world cup. EPL, FA cup, league Cup and even U18s leagues.

Ledley King is out for the rest of the WC. What joke that selection was...

/picard. I hate to say I told you so... For pity's sake give Dawson a go rather than Carragher. He's slower than every single forward at this world cup.

Dawson isn't the quickest either but aye, give him a go. And give Hart a frickin' go as well FFS! Even if Carragher is picked I don't think it's a bad thing. At least he will be able to get up to speed with the match when starting and should be able to read it better than he was able to coming on at half time. I still wish we had A Johnson there. Time for J Cole to make an appearance I think.

I think Dawson should start. I know its said he lacks international experience but with the teams we're playing next it shouldn't be that much of an issue.

Mesut Ozil doesn't have very much international experience, he still pretty much ran the game last night. I heard some pundit last night saying Capello shouldn't pick Dawson or Hart because "they've not played in a world cup before". What's the logic in that? Half the players in SA haven't played in a world cup before ffs. Jamie Carragher has (or at least he's been in the squad before), it doesn't stop him from being slower than tectonic drift and a red card waiting to happen because of that. Jon

Apparently the vuvezela's aren't going to be banned, which is really [LIFTED] annoying.
They are seriously doing my nut in. In addition, they drive the Wench up the wall as an innocent bystander who just happens to be in the same room. I'd do without most of the pitch-side sound to be rid of the noise.

De Jong should have been sent off. He's got form too- he broke Stuart Holden's leg with a red card double footed lunge in a USA vs Holland friendly (!) early this year.
Btw, I kind of like the vuvezulas. Things like that are what make tournaments individual.

So Italy v Paraguay. Italy are notorious at getting off to slow starts, when winning the world cup in 2006 they drew 1-1 with the USA in their opener, sound familiar? . Paraguay, well they finished above Argentina in the group stages and beat both Argentina and Brazil in doing so. Should be interesting.
