It's also the estimated delivery date of my Iceland photo book. (8+)
I just pictured loads of photos of food aisles that you spent ages composing

Don't give me that - you know damn well you'd spend half an hour dancing round a Hula-Hoops multipack to get the shot 'just so'

Morning. Spent yesterday looking at flats, some crude some acceptable. Then suddenly realised it would be cheaper to buy than rent. How long has this been going on?

It very much depends on where you live.
Don't forget you need to factor in a few extras if you are buying:
A deposit
Buildings insurance
Some sort of life insurance (you're unlikely to get at mortgage without it)
If you are particularly paranoid - some sort of cover for the heating/electrics/water supply

Still, happy house hunting.

I've never known anyone to need that for a mortgage... This a new thing?

Actually, it's an old thing. When I took out my first mortgage um.. 15 years ago, taking out their life insurance (so they got their money back if I carked it) was a condition of the deal. However I think a few years ago it was found to be legally indefensible to 'bundle' life insurance with long term loans. Nowadays the loan agreement can require you to take out insurance to cover the possibility of default, but they can't insist on it being their insurance, and they can't insist on it being life insurance rather than simple repayment insurance.

Weird, I worked for a bank in the early 00's and our mortgages never had that as a requirement.

When a friend and I had a mortgage from the Halifax about 3/4 years ago we had to get various sorts of insurance in order to qualify for the deal. It didn't have to be the Halifax's own product but we needed to be able to demonstrate we had it.
I guess the life assurance part was to cover them if one of us died as we weren't related/married so there was greater risk.

Random happenstance, and something about great minds.

Probably.

What new toy HK?

New Mac or new camera is my guess.

:D

New camera. The prices hit the sweet spot for my finances, and as we've managed to sell some other hobby stuff and made enough to cover the cost, I was allowed to buy it.

Canon EOS 7D body. I've got a ton of lenses already. 8-)

18 megapixel goodness. Very 8-)

Have fun, and I sincerely hope that your package doesn't vanish into the ether for a couple of days, like my most recent delivery.

Heh. I ordered it a week ago Monday. It was shipped the same day. Apparently it costs a tenner for storage at UPS, with a delivery window up to and including this coming Friday. :x

Quite so HK. :D

My cat has been going mental at the birds too, frakkin chirpy little buggers.
