Moneysavings expert had some deals on cook books from Amazon today. I took advantage and bought them through the X404 shop.

They really should have brought this out with the Now TV box, mine is now sat gathering dust as it's not used any more but might for stuff like Sky 1 (got freeview HD so it would be quite limited)
The choice of some key Sky channels without Sky is appealing though, but introductory price is a concern as to what it would jump to post promotion
Sport is MASSIVELY overpriced too, technically £300 for a month pass to sky sports

I could not find any mention of the final price so as you say you could buy a box and within months find it not being used at all. Though I suspect that this is a teaser to get people access to the sports package in the hope that after being stung for the Now TV deal they jump to Sky with the lower payments.

That's a pretty spurious statistic to be honest. Nobody in the real world pays that price.

While in reality there will be few who will it is theoretically possible to do so. You could leave the box on while away. You do hear of people having issue with usage fees such as mobile roaming.

if you bought a days coverage and went away and instead of cutting you off after the day was out the system then automatically charged you for the next day and the next (etc) you should talk to trading standards. Unless you've entered into a continuous service agreement (i.e.a subscription, which is £15 a month) they're not allowed to do that. That's not the same thing at all. Jon

They could argue that you were actually watching because most of this technology could not tell if the TV was off. In the end there will be news reports of problems like those with roaming charges and they will write off the charges when a stink is made of it. Many will still have to pay though. It all depends on the contract and how they bill. Most of these services would be tied to a credit card or current account for easy billing.

£9.99 for a 24 hour pass, hence the technically bit. Nobody would/should but it shows the difference compared to getting a normal subscription 4 day passes for the weekend football each month, £40

Which is, pretty much, what you'll pay if you take out a standard Sky subscription and add sky sports onto it. Course you get a lot more for that, but it might not be stuff you're interested in. It's an option people might realistically go for though. The £300 number is one of those statistics where if you come up with a silly edge case, the price becomes astronomical.

It might not get that extreme but there will be people with high bills. It think that Sky will use this as a service to attract potential customers with the added bonus of capping the bills for the customer. It is the same with mobile data, you could get seriously stung unless you do various things to protect yourself. For every case that we hear about there must be dozens that are of a similar magnitude and we never hear about them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
