Nicola is very close to letting me purchase an iMac but is surprised that it might need upgrading/replacing in maybe 4 years?

Send her a text reminding her how often she updates her wardrobe contents and at what cost - you, of course, should be in a whole other country when doing this... And I mean somewhere actually foreign, possibly not normal

Depends on what you want to do on it, of course, but I've had my MacBook for five years and am still looking at getting another two years out of it. The only thing I want to do on it now that it cant handle is lots of virtualising using VirtualBox...

We still have two G4's that are in use here at home. My friend's just getting rid of his. How many PC components have you bought in the last 6 years?

Time for me to get a few hours kip. Hopefully when I wake up someone will have crunched the empirical part of our report so I can typeset it before the deadline (And alter any conclusions so it all matches up).

A lot. Probably 2 major upgrades including CPUs and graphics cards + other bits and bobs. Which is why I'm puzzled as to why she thinks you dont need to upgrade a Mac, or that you buy one and it lasts forever. I get a small discount through work so with the current models and pricing I'd be looking at the cheapest 27" model (i3, 4GB, 1TB) but with an upgrade to the 1GB GDDR5 graphics and another 4GB of RAM from Crucial. £1500 almost to the pound. I wouldnt mind a SSD and quad core mind you but I think £2k would be pushing it To be honest Nic has come around to my way of thinking. We both work, I dont drink, I dont smoke, I dont buy expensive designer clothes, etc etc. I do buy the odd game (Xbox/PS3) and I like photography but I've got a modest camera and lenses and dont intend on upgrading anytime soon. It might have to wait until after the wedding though if I'm buying it outright rather than on finance.

I'm at home today, just had the weirdest knock on the door. 'Hello, would you be interested in a memory foam matress?' 'Err, no.....' 'OK'.
