I'd never noticed that, so I drove Google Maps to the nearest place I could think of with a high density of lights. They have the larger profile with the silver lining. However, despite me thinking there were more lights than you can shake a stick at - they are very spread out compared to the city. So I tried the middle of Leeds. Same story.
I really think it could be a density thing.
Can anyone remember if the London City traffic lights changed profile, perhaps after the mayor started messing with them?
Challenge: can anyone come up with an image from another city with a million traffic lights per square yard?

It wouldn't surprise me if Westminster decided to use gas fired traffic lights. As to other cities, Sydney is pretty rife with lights.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I know Red Ken messed with them so they were on red for longer than they needed to be, causing more congestion. Then when he brought in his congestion tax he switched them back so he could claim his tax was responsible for all the reduction in traffic jams.

I've seen both types in Birmingham.
One thing I've noticed is that more are becoming flatter in profile with a flat cover over the light. Presumably all LED based.

That word always make me giggle, in my head, it sounds like you just said "You should open a Door Joe" in a southern american accent Of course I know that if you tried to put on a southern US accent it would sound Indian, but in my head it sounds right and funny!

Why is it morning TV is so crap at the moment? A few months ago Discovery had good stuff on after 6am (eg Mythbusters or Destroyed In Seconds). Now there's just Atlas and How's it's made. There's just nothing good to watch after my shift finishes.

I love How it's Made! Though perhaps my enthusiasm for it is heightened due to my not having a TV to watch anything else...

A few years back, BBC2 would air episodes of ST:TNG in the early hours of Saturday morning. After a night out, I'd head back home and watch it before going to sleep.

ST:TNG first came out 25 years ago now.
