Are spammers getting better?

I have lots on my hotmail account yet I rarely use it so it is simply the spammers trying every combination. My main email account which is a mail forwarding service and that I have had for 18 years gets less than 5 a day. Usually third party marketing. No span as such. I also do not have spam filters operating as it stopped all my eBay notifications.

I always send mail bcc so no one gets my friends email addresses as a result. I do have to educate a few about the risks of cc simply everyone. That reduces my email address in the public domain. That plus I never read anything that is not identifiable so not alerting the spammer to a live address. It gets deleted in my junk mail.
