Really sorry to hear that Fakesnake, not a good way at all to head in to the weekend. I hope the police do something but as with everyone else - I wouldn't be too optimistic. Anyway, once again, I'm very sorry to hear what happened.

Depends if it’s an air brick or not, I suppose.

Spooky, I came down to my car this morning to find it wasn't locked :?

My dad's car uses a wireless card-key. He's had it for a couple of months now and noticed a few days ago that when the car is parked directly outside, with the card-key by the front door the car doesn't lock. Anyone could quite easily climb in and start it up!

I imagine he is in the habit of either parking on the other side of the road, or pressing the lock button now! :D

It makes me sick to read posts like this mate. I feel so sorry for you.

There's not a great deal I can add to what other's have said. I hope you get a result from the police but won't be holding my breath. The lowlife [LIFTED] scum who did this will hopefully get their reward !

Mate, sucks. Hope you get the tools back or find the culprits.

The powers that be want us (emergency ambulance crews) to obtain a patient's sexual orientation.

That wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to their emergency care, nor would it make a difference in hospital unless their illness was related to their sexuality (eg gay person who has lots of high-risk sex, and has HIV which leaves them immunocompromised). Even then, it's not something I'd ask a patient unless it was necessary.

Has anyone asked why they want to know a person's sexuality? Is this all to do with examination and needing chaperones?

Sorry to hear about that, fakesnake!

Have you checked if you are covered on your home insurance? Mine covers objects outside or away from the home.

Peter.

My guess is that it is an AIDS related question.

Am I right in thinking that there are as many heterosexual HIV/AIDS cases these days as homosexual? You'd be better off asking someone if they intravenously inject drugs rather than their sexual orientation.

I've applied for jobs in several publicly funded organisations, and each one has asked my sexual orientation and/or gender/transgender status.

I asked the first time why they were asking and was told that they had been told to gather information for statistics; ie. how many of this status of person applies for a job, and how many of that status person end up being employed.

Every time I am asked as part of the job interview process what my sexuality is, I have 'phoned them direct to ask if non-compliance or "decline to answer" answers will affect my application. Each time I have been told that it won't. I'm waiting for the day when someone says that it will affect my application, I haven't had to take anyone to court yet and I'm hoping that something like that would make a great test case for me :)

Sounds irresponsible to leave weapons in a car to me, not that I should really say anything as I had a perfectly good shed to put tools in I just got lazy

Thanks for all the sympathy guys and gals, looks like the van is going to be written off as well was is not worth much value wise but worth a lot to me.

There's no guarantee they'd be safe in there either, and probably still wouldn't be insured.

I know what a pain it is to try and lug loads of equipment in and out of your van every night. I used to park my old Fiesta on a side street when I lived in the loft above a shop in Oxford. There was no way I could carry all the kit back and forth every day, so most of it stayed in the van. It got broken into almost every week, and the police were a complete waste of time. On one occasion, my tools were actually found dumped in a ditch a few hundred yards away. Anther time, the landlord's son's stereo was nicked from his car. I was very impressed his family network, because they found the guy responsible and "persuaded" him to give it back. Must be nice to have a family that actually pulls together.

My only solution was to move house to somewhere nicer, but that took many years of saving before I could afford it.

I hope something turns up for you soon.

As I recall, the number of aids cases gradually rose in heterosexual people until 2000 when it overtook homosexual people. However, since then, the number of cases has become higher in homosexual people, but is still almost as high in heterosexual people.

Ah, okay. Thanks for that. So, asking someone's sexual orientation at the scene of an incident has nothing at all do potential treatment, and everything to do with "ticking the right boxes".

"Sorry, I can't treat your broken leg. You see, I have not met my quota of Tibetan clog herders this month."

What a country this has become. :x

Wow. If a thread has ever gone so far off topic, it has to be this one.

All I know from our equalities officer is that sexual orientation is one of the pieces of information that someone, somewhere is pushing for us to ask for. Thankfully, our officer has enough sense to tell them to shove it.

As regards employment, we recently had letters asking us to update our personal details and this included sexual orientation for the first time.

It's all well and good if EVERYONE answers honestly, but if many refuse to say and many lie, then the whole business of gathering this data becomes utterly pointless.
