If people I know start doing that to me, I cut them out of my life completely. A couple of so-called friends thought that they could take advantage and now no longer have me as a friend. Friendships are two way affairs and are never exploitative. They might swing in one persons favour for a while but not for long. I have a friend in the construction industry but things have been very up and down for him. On those occasions we might go out and I will pay for lunch and booze, because he has done that for me, when I was skint.

hm this very scenario reminds me of a friend I have (hes very foreign) he will pay for my food then I pay for him later but he insists I dont, then he pays for my fuel sometimes and cinema tickets then I buy him something back and it goes back and forth to the point were "fighting" over who pays for what etc

I learned the hard way that if you can't defend yourself, you can't defend anything.
These days my idiot tolerance is somewhere between rare and non-existent.

Yes but as long as it does not feel to one sided then people will let slight imbalances go. One might be considerably richer than the other and it would be impossible to be complete balanced.

The higher up people are the lower my tolerance levels are. Some one low down the food chain I will accept mistakes, I blame their supervisors for their mistakes.

Exactly. If someone cannot know better then that's fine; if they should know then it's Plankton ftw. "I WILL DESTROY YOU!"

I find this thread quite refreshing. I have often walked out of a shop instead of "making do" with something I didn't really want. To my mind, they should learn from me and improve their stock or lose more custom. With people pushing in then even as a young child I've usually spoken my mind. It rather embarrassed my parents when I'd say something like "Mum, why is that smelly woman jumping the queue? Is she mentally deficient and can't understand the rules?" There are times when I think "it isn't worth the hassle" and I'll let things pass. For something relatively petty, the principle isn't always worth the time involved or potential embarrassment or bloodshed. As I've grown older, fatter and uglier I find I am more intimidating than I was aged 20 and so have more confidence to make my opinion known. I also find myself being less tolerant as I age. I will definitely be the grumpiest old man you've ever met. On the other hand, there have been a few occasions I've nearly gotten into a serious fight because I wouldn't let something drop. I never realise until after the event, but I've come quite close being hospitalised when the idiot involved was 50% ape and 50% rhino. A different situation is with "friends" who start to extract the urine rather; particularly with IT support which I'm sure many of you are familiar with. I tend to mostly complain about them behind their back. To there face, I explain just how much work it is despite their incredulity and often end up doing the job against my better judgement just to shut them up. I'm only really thinking of one person, and it's no one on here. I have to add, it's good I'm not permitted to carry a hand gun. At least, it's good for the selfish pricks that annoy me because I have very little will power and the temptation to cap someone who pushed in front of me would be irresistible. I think most of us can sympathise with that particular example of tongue-bighting politeness. Even if you work for yourself, sometimes you need to "humour" your most annoying clients...

This thread makes me feel better too.
I once walked into M&S (somewhere in/near Covent Garden) and asked where the Coca Cola was (not knowing that at that time, they didn't sell it). When I was taken to the M&S own-brand cola I refused to buy it and started making my way out, only for the shop assistant to say "stop being so childish and just buy the damn drink". Needless to say I have never shopped with M&S since.
