I kinda want an invite, but I really think that Facebook is too much already and I should be trying to withdraw, not add. I've managed to avoid Twitter so far and I'm keeping it that way.

I wouldn't mind an invite, having just dumped Fakebook

What's people's verdict on it so far, apart from buggy?

It's like a closed BBS.
I know it's still in 'alpha' but it's all very underwhelming right now.

Well, from one day of not much, it's like a cross between Twitter and Facebook, but without the overbearing attitude of the latter. Diaspora is not after your data - yet - so once you've signed up with the basics, that's it.

I like the feature called "Aspects". You can set up different aspects for work, play, hobby, whatever, and then target posts to the contacts you have in certain areas, rather than just blast the whole thing to the world.

It's still being built, being an alpha release, so there's a lot of stuff not there, or stuff that ought to be there and isn't. There's a nice big feedback button, though, so you can share with the developers if you want to help it grow.

I'm positive about it at the moment. I am happy to be in on the ground floor and to be able to grow with it if it takes off. I never really felt comfortable with Facebook in the first day or so like I have with Diaspora. YMMV.

All I need from it is and "Events" type feature in the final site and I'll be happy.

Well, it appears to be scifigeek [at] joindiaspora.com.

I haven't signed in for ages. Maybe I ought to go and poke a stick in it again.

It was strange to read that the Facebook CEO donated a wad of cash to the project

Ooer. I'd better close my account then. I've officially committed Facebook suicide now, so the only "social" net stuff I do is here, Flickr and Twitter.
