If you are on benefits you have a tough time getting any of these so called flats outside the ability of the average person anyway. Simply because they do not access benefit claimants. Though that fact has never deterred the right wing press anyway

Yeah, but Sas, people get paid decent money up there. Most people I know (in there late 20s, early 30s) will struggle to exceed the mid to late teens for salary down here. The odd few scrape £20k or just over, but even that would be difficult to rent a £500 flat AND run a car (which is essential down here).

You need to move to London then. I'm only 30 but have managed to keep to my "your salary should be at least £1000 for every year you've been alive" rule for the last 6-7 years

No dude. The wages need to be good down here ;)

Yes, I could earn more money in London. But I couldn't go to the beach and I'd have to put up with crime and filth and CCTV everywhere and smelly people on the Central line. I love it for a few days, but live there - I don't think I could.

Yes but you will never get a cleaner or security guard even in London can get anywhere close to that.

Let's not turn this in to a London vs rest of UK debate. We all know where it's expensive.

Those 2 places look great :) Keeping fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you. Are there any internal shots of 1st one? Kitchen in 2nd looks lovely! And an ensuite eh! How posh :D

That's mental! The cheapest you can get a 1 bed flat down here is £450-500!! And that's if you can actually find one.

Much the same in the Bay - and we're hardly like the employment capitol of the SW. I can't understand who's affording them...

Same here too. It's basically based on a couple sharing and what they can afford. Only the very wealthy live on their own round here (and there's not many of them!) Singles usually house share.

So basically, it's the same picture across the whole of the South West, which means the streets really must be paved with gold in the smoke. Woohoo, let's go.

1 bed flats are £700 or so where I live...Currently my mortgage is around £750 a month

I used to rent a 1-bed flat in Dorset and was paying around £700pcm.

Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to divulge details of your mortgage? I'm saving up but want to know about mortgages, deals etc. You could PM me if you would rather not reveal such information publicly.

Went to see them today. They were both really nice and the views from the seventh storey was amazing. However, the fact that the other one was just as good inside (not as big) and came with a free parking space has drawn me to it.

Will be making an offer when they're next open! Woo!

Not quite what you were after, but I did some research and based on the Market value of my house that I rent for £695 a month, I'd have to put down 37k and pay 1500 a month. Not that I'd pay 250k for a three bedroomed house anyway.

I could probably get a better deal as I just used an online mortgage calculator and you'd expect to knock a few grand off the asking price anyway, but indicative of the fact that it would be madness to do it!

Right, well, I'm in! Woooooo! It's -2 outside and the heating hasn't even been on and it's fine in here! Other than that it's a fricking gorgeous flat!!! I absolutely love it here!

Not all of my stuff is here yet so it's a bit empty but I really like it! I just need a nice big tv for the lounge now :-)
