A missed opportunity but a pleasant surprise. :)

Asking someone out out of the blue is hard for most people although alcohol helps – hence the old Dutch courage.

Generally though when looking back most regrets are because you didn’t do something rather than because you did – so next time ask

There's a song that starts with a conversation between a child and his father, that goes something like

Child : Daddy, what does 'regret' mean?
Father : Well, son, the thing about regret is... it's better to regret something you have done than something you haven't done. And when you see your Mom this weekend....

SATAN! SATAN! SATAN!

LOL, love that track although it always makes me want to listen to Sabbath. Probably reflects some of what the egg man is thinking right now...

Can't guarantee I'd have done any better, but I most definitely would have gotten off at her stop and followed her to by myself more time to think of something to say. But hey, I wasn't there, you were.

Which would probably result in her thinking, "ffs you smile at someone on the tube, and they end up being a creepy stalker type" ;)

Act in the moment or not at all.

I was just as bad - I'd make prolonged eye contact with a nice woman, my heart would start racing and I'd feel like I was colouring up. Invariably, the moment would pass with complete inaction on my part.

I stopped regretting those kinds of encounters long ago - it was just nice to think that I wasn't a total troll, and there was still hope.

Now that I'm married with kids, I have no problems talking to women - probably because I no longer have an agenda and therefore not troubled by the hope of where it might lead.

Works in the movies! You just run off the train and say something ridiculous, like, "I should've said something on the train, but I'm an idiot. I have to get to work/home/mates/whatever, but would you like to meet for coffee soon?"

Obviously, stalking her all the way up the escalator is more Spooks, than Would Like to Meet.

Best chat up line, ice-breaker, call it what you will is 'Hello'.
After that you're on your own, but that's my advice.

And here is me thinking its

“If I said you had a nice body would you hold it against me”

So that’s where I have been going wrong all of these years

Fine, as long as you don't follow that up with...
"Hello... I'm Dick. Would you like some?"

The very first time I referred to, I had been married for years and, all in all, I hadn't been convinced that any other woman had been the slightest bit interested in me in the preceding 18 years. In the first instance I was really, really flattered.

Shortly afterwards, I had massive row with the wife and very nearly stormed off to the nursing home to try and find out who this woman was. I didn't go there and I never saw her again. As the years go by, I am simply waiting for another opportunity.

I too am married with kids, but I feel very differently to you. Unfortunately, there are aspects of my marriage that I am not happy with and, when something (long story) happened last year, I was finally convinced that I would stray, given the opportunity- and no, I'm not proud of it.

Everywhere I go now, I am assessing the women that I see and come into contact with. The only thing stopping me is my own inexperience in chatting women up and the fear of acting in an inappropriate manner- especially when in work

I wonder if this happens to anyone else: you see a hot girl and build her up in your mind. But when you talk to her, she's this vacuous muppet who is more interested in celeb/reality crap. Even at work, there are some nurses/doctors who I would normally find hot but because I work with them, they're no longer interesting.

To be honest, the vacuousness usually reveals itself pretty quickly. It's rare to see someone regularly without it being revealed, even without talking to them.

I give up, too hard to explain :(

I mostly agree with JJ, but yes, it has happened to me before. Every now and again, one slips through my extreme filtering system!

Bratty, you need to try some foreign ladies ;)
