My Panasonic 32" TV has build in DVB-S2 (HD satellite) and is excellent. The quality of HD content is very good.
As JJW said, weather is a big factor with satellite - due to the increased bandwidth needed by HD, it can be more sensitive to heavy storms, snow, thick fog etc. Where I lived in Bayern, satellite was the only option, there was no terrestrial signal in the area (middle of a forest, in the middle of a valley, in the middle of nowhere). That meant, for about 2 - 3 days a year, I'd have little of no signal.
It also depends on signal strenght and band. Some bands would disappear before others, and obviously, weak signal stations would disappear before stronger ones. You could try fine tuning the dish position...

I've got the Humax Freesat HD box and it's been 100% since I've had it. I get BBC One HD, BBC HD and ITV HD plus iPlayer and the ITV catchup service should go live this year too. I got it from Argos. The only thing I regret is I didnt get the PVR version as it was more expensive but ultimately worth it IMO http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... SAT+HD.htm

Thanks guys. The problem isn't the hd though. All those channels work with no problems. It's all the normal channels like BBC 1, BBC 2, itv etc... That stop working all the time.
Not sure if the dish is my own but I think not. Either way I would have to get the maintenance company to look at it.
Gonna try freeview instead. It's the easier option at the moment.
Thanks

I'm hoping to win a new Humax HD PVR. They had a competition on Facebook for owners of the PVR9200T. Send them your serial number and the oldest one wins
