Bratty, please, please, please, don't do it.

I did it before, with somebody that I trusted WITH MY LIFE. Still took me 2.5yrs to get it back and paid untold interest over that period.

There's probably a legal route he can take to get the interest stopped and repayment time extended. That would be his best option.

Otherwise, I think I'm quite a fan of P2P lending. The risk is lower because it's spread slightly.

I suggested the legal route which might mean IVA or some other write off. In fact banks should accept such losses as normal considering how lax they were with loans in the past.

I have looked at Zopa as well in the past, It might be better than lending to a friend who will treat it as a gift.

Couldn't remember it exactly, but a quote that is not only apt here, but incredibly insightful at all times.

There's something of a problem with using this quote to endorse a point, in that Polonius was a complete imbecile in the play, and pretty much every bit of advice he gives out is wrong...

I would agree with him on this particular subject mind ;)

I'm old enough to get a O level C grade, and an abiding hatred of Thomas Hardy. :D

Basically if you did lend the money then assum its a gift - i.e. that you would not get it back.

I would only lend money to a coupe of very close mates and my immediate family and in all instances I would hope they would pay it back but mentally I would treat it as a gift.
