I've just seen that a protest has been organised for the Fawley refinery next Saturday. I wonder if this could blow up into something similar to the 2000 protests, or perhaps there is more apathy these days.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I wouldn't be surprised. A lot of people are being stretched very thinly, and I don't think it'd take much, after all, if a bunch of students can mobilise, think what people who're up and about before noon could manage.

Just wait oil prices are set to go much higher, but the government will still roll out the line we are all in this together while they fiddle the books.

Much simpler - the line "we're all in this together" while we're paying £1.30 a litre and they're using government limousines which we also pay the fuel cost for...

I had thought that as well. Plus they get all their petrol as MP's covered by expenses.

Not to mention their electricity bills, gas bills and so on.

Perhaps if they were paid a more realistic wage but then had to pay for the things that everyone else has to pay for then the actual impact of, for example, fuel and electricity prices may make them more effective at understanding the situation.

The fuel price hike would not really be an issue if VAT hadn't been increased. The recent penny increase has been, effectively, a 4p increase per litre according to economists. As for it being a 'green' tax, well, where's the alternative? There are none. Electic cars? Not viable and MPs seem to forget that they use electricity and much of our electricity still comes from fossil fuels.

It is funny. Some of the bankers who were, in a big part, responsible are getting nice bonuses. We're idiots. I don't mind pulling my weight so long as everyone else does.

As for the ConDems in general, they keep coming up with bad ideas and then changing their minds. They have no idea what they're doing.

I have no problem with it as long as they did progressive changes, even if they effected everyone even those on benefits. The cap on housing benefit was necessary but the other changes were just malicious.
