It was on Five for a while wasn't it? Or am I making that up? It was definitely on 4 at some point.

You will have to wait till September for the season to start, maybe later this year as they are negotiating salaries so who knows?

Back when they were "Channel 5" they had craploads of NBA and NFL coverage. Channel 4 used to have huge NBA coverage before that, but I don't think they ever had football. We'll have to wait til at least the May upfronts to see what the fall TV schedule looks like over there. Once that hits, I suspect Sky, the BBC and anybody else who cares will start negotiations.

Ah yes, back in the heyday of Channel 4 when it did stuff other than Big Brother and game shows. Saturday mornings were American football highlights with Gary Imlach followed by Serie A highlights with the incomparable James Richardson partly obscured by an enormous slice of cake and a very small cup of coffee. It doesn't get much better than that, I can tell you. Jon

Right. I've been dabbling with Twitter now for, ooh, at least a week. I think.
Some observations -
All too often, I come back to the desk and find "10340-twelvety-brazillion new Tweets" for me to scroll through, find very little of any value, or things directed at me about things I'd long forgotten I'd Tweeted. The rest invariably doesn't concern me. It's like being at a party where there's loads of people shouting at each other, and you're trying to have your own discourse with someone. But first you've got to pay attention to what everyone else has just said. It's like standing in front of a fire hose of conversation. And I'm only following 64 people.
Facebook on the other hand, if you're not dragged into pointless time-sink games, feels like a welcome change. I don't see every update between people, I get to see things directed at me because I get notified about it, and the whole thing's a far more manageable experience. And I've got about twice the numbers of people I'm in touch with here than on Twitter. I don't have to use another site to share photos. I can ramble on beyond 140 characters. +1 to Facebook, I feel.
Adverts: A lot of people seem to be irritated by the presence of a small section of real estate dedicated to 'targeted' adverts on Facebook. To be honest, some of the people I'm following on Twitter just use the thing as an advertising channel, and nothing else. Which is actually more irritating, as it's more in your face. I can happily ignore whatever pap FB seems to think I'd be interested in. I'm awarding +1 to Facebook on this front.
Privacy - now, FB doesn't have a fabulous track record in this area. However, let us not forget that this is the internet and once it's out there, it's out there forever. (Unless you're that YouTube video of Andy Kershaw reading a tribute to bands of the 90s who will never enjoy a remastered special edition. But I digress. Although, if you have the URL.. ta much for it.) I can adjust the security settings of my account, decide which 'apps' I want to run and what they can do. Twitter seems to be either public or 'private'.
So, I'll keep my Twitter going a while longer, but I'm not giving up Facebook any time soon either.

My main issue with twitter is that I just can't keep up with it. If I have to do some work, I go back to find I've missed a load of stuff an can't be arsed to go back and read all of it.

Alex, Tom … why do you feel the need to read everything that shows up in your Twitter stream? Just because someone you follow says something doesn't automatically make that a worthy post to read. If there's tons of posts to get through after you've been away for a few hours, just check your mentions and ignore the rest. If there's anything that should have been of specific interest to you, the author should've mentioned you. By no means do I read everything that gets posted by all the people I follow. There's not enough hours in the day for that.

From what I've seen, Twitter is more than capable of falling over all by itself. The Fail Whale is out to play quite frequently.

Curiosity. For the same reasons I've got 18 tabs open in Safari - this is not unusual for me. Otherwise it's a glorified chat room, really, but one that puts an arbitrary limit on how much you can say.
