I think the funniest thing is the fact there's a frickin' app for Confession, I mean come on. As for the Pope, he's fair game. If you place yourself on a pedestal of righteousness and morality don't be surprised to be held up to account when you do very little to stop kiddy feckers who are in your command. That has nothing to do with religion.

Those jokes make themselves these days. Anyway, the jokes aren't mainly about Catholics, they're about the organisation that is the catholic church. There's an important difference.

Don't forget the scientologists.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

You choose your own act of contrition. Does that not defeat the spirit of an act of contrition - I'll do the one that is least trouble to me thanks.

I wonder if those two will happily live together in the same folder?

Obviously you don't understand the true nature of the phenomenon that is the Catholic Guilt Complex. A proper catholic would choose whichever penance gave them the most trouble. In any case the act of contrition ( in the sense of the ritual) is as much about acknowledging your sins as paying for them. The first step to curing a problem is to recognize you've got one. I love the fact it's on a phone actually. Imagine if you started it up and a little message came up saying 'All our Gods are currently busy. Please hold. You contrition is important to us and we'll be with you shortly.' Jon

I have visions of the Father Ted episode where he's put on hold to the Vatican, and has a nun singing down the phone to him.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking... "Hello, Sister Mary speaking, would you like the Deluxe Confession at £99, or we also do a Basic Confession at £19.99" "Hmm, what do you get for the Basic Confession" "Well, we'll send a Nun round to beat the confession out of you with a baseball bat" "Ah, that'll be grand"

Some would class that as a bit of a mistake. However as the Pope is infallible I guess it wasn't.

Catholics, likely. And possibly some other Christian denoms. The rest of world is pretty much agreed about it.

I keep a couple of Bibles on my iPhone at all times so I guess it makes sense that this app is out. Soon one will not have to go to church at all to get your fix. Your iPhone can give you the church music, bible reading, karaoke church sing-along, confession, penance, and allow you to make your donation to the collection plate all without having to disturb your local minister of religion from his or her slumbers. Now where did I put God's number? I just want to text him a prayer or two about world peace.
