We exchanged cards. I don't think there's any need for more. However work sells roses for charity, so i might get some anyway :)

My vase of flowers is waiting hidden in the target of my affection's apartment, with her housemate my secret accomplice in the transnational subterfuge.

Why I help you give my GF roses is beyond me sometimes. What a fool am I. :D

Some might see that as a silver lining. Some may not.

I see at is both silver and not. I'm guessing you're in the latter camp. If that's that case, sorry bro.

Innit.

I've had two, maybe three cards in my entire life. I've given 2 and they were out of obligation. Only one of the three I've received meant anything. Such is the way of this Westernized, capitalist [LIFTED] we live in.

But hey Jon, thanks for the reminder buddy.

Due to the complete lack of money, we're not exchanging cards or gifts, but I will make her something nice for tea, as I'm not at work today.

Anyone who actually knows the story of St. Valentine has to find the idea of Valentine's Day somewhat... incongruous.

Anyway, I have given/received a few of them in my time, although I can't honestly say it was more out of affection than obligation. The best/most extravagant one was a chocolate heart made specially for me by William Curley, who is is officially one of the best chocolatiers on the planet. That was nice, especially as I got to eat some of it :).

I won't be giving or receiving anything this year though and generally it's a ritual I find pointless, if not counter-productive. It's somewhat hard to claim sincerity in a declaration of love today, simply due to the 'you're only doing it because it's valentine's day' factor. If you're giving such a gift to a person you're already in a relationship with, then you have that issue. if you're giving a gift to someone you want to be in a relationship with then my experience is it's a very hit and miss thing, and you can get the same effect doing the same thing some other day, usually for about half the cost...

Jon

Anyone who thinks today's commercialism has anything to do with the origins of the thing should seek emergency psychiatric help.
Jus' sayin'

I for one couldn't give a flying [LIFTED] about it, but the Wench does seem to very much appreciate it. I just hate having to think up something 'appropriate' to write in the card. I seem to have done ok so far mind.

Violets are red
Everything's red
