Yes - by "Asan" I guess you mean "oriental". That's a question the Police asked me.

My dad had a call like this too. They were snotty to him too.

It seemed to be more of an Indian/Pakistan thing going on with the people I mentioned - I actually got frustrated with the people telling me about it cos they're from Belfast and couldn't understand the accent to answer some of the questions

What good will your Crash Test Dummy collection be in that eventuality? Apart from offering an amusing diversion?

Hey, some of those things would fly up to 3cm ;)

They do - they told me my address.

Event Viewer.

Triangles and error crosses are perfectly normal for some services and apps.

Yes we are. Phone numbers and addresses seem to leak anyway.

If I get told that my system is riddled with viruses, I'll just ask them, which one?

It is a bit scary that they declare that they know where "you" live, but in reality, I can't see what they are going to do about it. Certainly, through their behaviour, they've just proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that they are not from Microsoft. ;)

I guess it's easy for me to say, but I wouldn't worry about it. Well done on telephoning the police, though. Many people probably wouldn't bother and then they would have no idea of the scale of the problem. Now, they can produce statistics, which will really please someone!

Invite them round, saying the dogs could do with a new attack dummy.

I don't know, I can imagine Steve Ballmer doing that on his afternoon off.

Yes. Don't expect them to do anything more, and I'm certainly not losing any sleep over it. If it helps provides meaningful data about the problem, then good. As I said, my parents got ansimialr call last week, so it's quite a problem. I guess enough people sign on to their "product" to make it worth while.

If I get another call, I'll try the "which one" tack. I dunno why I didn't think of that yesterday.

As I have it set up on one of my machines, I'd be tempted to load up a VM and let them play around with it and see if they notice.

Try booting from a Puppy Linux live cd and see how they get on.
