I think the USP of a Kindle/Sony/Nook/Whatever is the fact it's e-ink. That's the only reason I bought mine, and I love it.

See the bargains thread for £80 Wi-FI and upwards reconditioned Kindles peeps... Nearly bought one myself, but I figure I can make do with all the books I have here until a colour one appears

That is my thought. I know someone with one so will go and have a try out to see if it is practical for me. I doubt it right now.

I love my Kindle. I am now reading more than ever because of it. The refresh doesn't bother me at all and the e-ink screen means no eye strain.

I use it not only for books but I also have Ars Technica subscription on it. You can also get a one-off newspaper or magazine issues should you want to, you don't need to buy the subscriptions.
I also send documents to my kindle and read it there. If I see a good article on the internet and I don't have time to read it there and then, I copy it into a word document and send it to my kindle email. Then I read it on my Kindle when on the bus or on the tube whenever I want.

They do but you'd only use it in "life and death" situation". Or maybe check your email but that's about it... Edit: Have a look yourself http://youtu.be/1ynDSF9blfE

Well, I've had the Kindle a fortnight now and my experience is............ that you need 2 On the other hand, my wife is one of these people who can't put a book down until it's finished so it's pretty quiet in the Mac household after the kids go to bed I'm quite enjoying it but some of the book prices are the same as you may pay for a paperback under some shops special offers or even from Amazon themselves - not much of an incentive but I suppose the free (for a small fee) books make up for that. I think you've got to accept it as what it is - a medium for reading books and not much more. Al

I do think that it fills a niche. I think that it will appeal more once it is in colour. I would use it for manuals.

I posted this elsewhere because I forgot about this thread: Amazon sell PhotoBooks of models... for the Kindle. Seriously: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ogura-PhotoBook ... B003F77846I'm really not sure that screen is going to reveal her true colours I'd buy it for £2.85 if I could actually see it in colour; the import version on hard copy is usually very expensive indeed. However, I notice she's on iTunes for free
