This leads me on to a trivia question that came up in the pub one night that I've never been able find an answer to. The question is - 'who is the tallest man who has climbed to the summit of Mount Everest?' Because, you might say, that man has stood taller than any other man on Planet Earth. I doubt is was one of the sherpahs (Nepalese are not generally tall) but the list of mountaineers who have done the deed is in fact quite long and not all of them have been measured, apparently  .

This scares me.

Also, while we are on about heights, I think the tallest unprotected place I have been was in a massive minaret in Khiva. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khiva

One of the places you can go in is a minaret. You pay the chap at the entrance about 5 kopeks (this was in 1990, so a while back now), and you climb up this tall structure, in the dark. Each step is a different height to the last, and there may be people coming down. Anyway, you get to the top, and it’s this large platform with a stone screen around it, as you’d expect from Islamic architecture. It’s full of people, mostly tourists.

However, to one place in this tower is a massive man-sized hole where there used to be the screen. You could easily fall through it, and by some kind of unhappy fortune, this is where I end up. And I hated it. The view was spectacular, but I have a fear of heights, and the fear manifests itself by me wanting to step off the high object, which just compounds the problem.

Anyway, you get the idea of the kind of view I had from this image on Wiki:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... an%29_.jpg

I can’s say for sure which tower I was in, but I suspect it’s the one full of people next to the blue/green domes to the right of the image.

Sir Edmund Hillary is actually pretty tall for a climber (most climbers aren't that tall as being very light and wirey is far more of an advantage than any extended reach is).

Seeing as Mount Everest is getting bigger all the time, i would have thought it's just a case of the latest successful climber ;)

Cabo Girão is a 590m vertical sea cliff in Madeira. It is protected by a small fence that is very easy to bypass. ;)

I've done a bugee jump from Nevis in New Zealand.

Highest bungee in New Zealand and used to be the highest in the world!

That was scary as f*ck but I'd do it again! :D

Yeah, forgot about that. I've driven up Pike's Peak. That's over 14000ft and looking over the edge is pretty cool! Driving around the edges is a little sketchy though!
