I don't suppose you will have dealings with Keri-Anne Payne, would you? ;)

And why would that possibly be of interest to you Paul? ;)

From Manchester, I could actually fly to Florida and stay for a week for less than it would cost me to go to London for a week during the Olympics, assuming I also bought some tickets to go see even the less popular events.

Is that considering an increase in airfares over the Olypmic period? You can guarantee they'll be up for the South East but I've not looked at other airports.

Not actually no. It was a simple comparison between a costing I did when the tickets were announced (return train to London, hotel for a week, living expenses, a few tickets to events like the Archery) and what it cost me to stay in Orlando for a week last year. It was, IIRC, about 100 quid different in favour of Florida. I'd imagine flight prices are higher this year than they were last year simply due to the escalating price of oil but I don't know if it'd have swung the balance.

I know the Olympics is a once in a lifetime thing and I'd rather like to witness part of them but the fact is while being at the venues is going to be fine, getting to and from them and staying in London is going to be a massive pain.

I wish Londoners all the luck with it though; I was involved with the Commonwealth Games when they were in Manchester and that was fantastic.

I bet that didn't apply to the likes of Coca Cola and the other huge sponsors.

According to LOCOG it applies across the board, can't say for sure how true that is, but it bascially involved the lottery system just the same as everyone else, corporate sponsors had to enter the lottery on behalf of their company. Speedo entered the lottery to buy tickets for some of the Exec and Board to attend some of the swimming but all sponsors had to pay full price and had the same chance as Joe Public (so say LOCOG)

London 2012 Games Lanes: Traffic delays of two hours

And this was just a trial by all accounts, giving them a chance to fiddle with traffic light timings/sequences.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

First day, first [LIFTED] up:
News CLICKY

They put up the South Korean flag for the North Korean football team.
I don't think they could have made a bigger flag error if they tried.

I am not the world's biggest sports fan, but will probably find myself watching one or two Olympic events- something more obscure like archery, probably- but I am already fed up with the Olympics and starting to wish that they were already over.

What really annoys me about the Olympics isn't the cost, the security cock ups, the Olympic lanes and traffic congestion- it's the fact that it is impossible to avoid.

The current BT Broadband advert using synchronised swimming FFS is especially [LIFTED] and clearly deemed an appropriate way to get on the Olympic bandwagon, but almost all the ads- whether from sponsors or not- are centred on the Games or the participants.

The news is full of it- mainly the cost, the security cock ups, the Olympic lanes and traffic congestion- and as such, I have avoided news programs for most of the last two weeks or more.

And even ordinary, every-day programmes are onboard as well, until I am already in Olympic overload/shutdown mode.

And a massive face-palm moment there for the "Korean" flag cock up.

To be honest, I'm much more interested in watching the Winter Olympics on TV.

OK I get that the Olympics is not everyone's cup of tea but I'm having trouble with all the negativity. I don't like sports. I probably won't see any of the events. Yes it's cost a lot of money but the population of the UK will benefit from a lot of the work that's been done e.g. train station updates.

Why all the moaning?

The Olympics is one of the biggest events this country has seen for years and the whole world literally will be looking at the UK. What do you want the news to be full of?

*baffled & quite excited*

How will the UK population benefit from station updates in London? Only visitors to London will benefit from those updates.
