I wrote to my MP about online services storing credit cards, and maybe their should be an option for those details not to be retained beyond the scope of the transaction. The reply, which too months to arrive (fair dues to him - he wrote to tell me that the delays we beyond his control and to apologise for them), told me that you agree to this in the terms & conditions when you sign up, and that jt's an issue for the Information Commissioner's Office to pursue if there are any issues I have experienced. This will be down to data loss, security and retention. I think you'll find that scammers are everywhere and iTunes is just another target - PayPal, Amazon, etc.. In fact, I got an email from Amazon the other day saying that my password had been reset and I should create a new one. This was due to a phishing attack they had experienced. So I went to Amazon's site, and when I tried to log on, my password was indeed reset and needed changing. No recent purchases logged, but, yes, I'll be checking my bank statements when they come through.

Pay Pal seem to be the biggest target. Only this morning I received an email from paypal.net saying my address was wrong and I had to follow a link.
This is why I don't want my Dad to get a Paypal account. He'd probably assume that was legitimate and click on it.

well, I wouldn't say 'run'. More 'stagger, then walk into a lamp-post, then shamble back dazed and fall down a manhole'.

Sounds about right. Everyone I knows who run iTunes on Windows has had problems syncing with their iPad etc at some point or another. I used to use iTunes just to listen to music on my laptop (no iPod etc), but now I use Foobar2000.

I think that as time goes on, and the iOS devices become more and more independent of the desktop, you won’t need iTunes as much, if at all. That’s not a bad thing - it’s certainly been ages since I plugged my iPad into my Mac - though I do have iTunes running pretty much all the time. OK, cold comfort for those of you running Windows - but it may be that iTunes becomes just another portal to the store instead of the over all controller of what your iOS device syncs. Maybe iOS6 will cut the cord? If not 6, then I expect 7 to do the deed.

In Windows it tries to become the overall controller of your system

Damn straight! Yes but it's a poorly coded piece of programming. A blind monkey typing on a dvorak keyboard whilst having an epileptic fit would probably write better code.
