Picturesque as this little detour may be, as far as I know she's not likely to be bowling medium pace from the Riverside end, so can we get back to talking about the cricket please before Heather comes back and gives us all detention or something . Jon

Got a bit confused yesterday, left work to play cricket thinking play had finished, but they'd only stopped for tea. So when I got to the pitch, found out Flintoff and Prior were out. Pretty much an honours even day, which given how often Australia usually get the best of a first Ashes day, is not to shabby.
Pietersen's dismissal was just stupid and, as you say, he's done that a few times now. He always says, "oh that's the way I play", but his stated intent is to reach 10,000 test runs and he's not going to do it that way.

I think Jon might have been as confused as I was as to why somebody would post in a thread about cricket if they didn't like it. Now get the [LIFTED] out.

Definitely cricket, I'm afraid. English tailenders knocking the Aussies all over the ground. Who'dathunkit?

Unfortunately, Hughes has been smacking it about a bit in reply. Hopefully for not too much longer though.

Gah, the moment I go on lunch the cricket does as well. Bloody annoying.

Missed the morning's play due to being in a meeting. I was hoping England might get to 400 so the final score was a pleasant surprise. From the grauniad's OBO coverage it sounds like Swann had a right old flail.
They could do with an early breakthrough wicket though - the Aussie openers could build a big score if they're allowed to get comfortable. Thankfully according to TMS Flintoff's opening over was anything but comfortable for Hughes....

A breakthrough!
Oz lose two wickets just before lunch. Katich gets caught LBW by Anderson for 122 and Ponting is out for a gritty 150 that Geoff Boycott will undoubtedly approve of, being bamboozled by the first decent ball Panesar has managed so far. Oz are 348 for 4 at lunch, trailing England by 87 runs.
