I wouldn't mind a merge of the hardware and software forums. Maybe have a PC forum and an Apple forum in stead of PC and Mac?

It's used for that purpose anyway.

iPhone vote to keep the programming forum as I use that regularly.

As Macs are PCs as well, this seems a bit of a faulty naming structure. If we are going by brand names, we'll need Apple, Microsoft, Linux, Other. Or Mac, Windows, Open Source, Other.

I've always assumed Internet was about markup. Without trying to confuse markup with programming, perhaps they would both sit together.

I'd argue that's the web, but I reckon the "Internet" forum could be happily disbanded and questions posted in either the programming or networks forums, depending on the nature of the post.

I do not use the programming thread, but I do still think that if the threads are merged it is better than simply abandoning them. So merge if necessary.

A PC and Apple thread might simplify, though could programming be OS dependant? So one for PC and one for Apple?

I'll deal with whatever you decided Sas.

Might I suggest Hardware, Software, Mobile - for extreme simplicity. I think there's very of us that are massively partisan on either side of the iStuff. Have we the traffic to warrant an OS divide? Also, don't several regular members run both and couldn't that possibly lead to more posts in those sections being read by a wider cross section of members and therefore better help for all of us (and potential new readers) not to mention more interesting discussion...?

I think given that many topic overlap hardware and software, it's a good idea.
Could we also merge the for sale / wanted forums as they're never busy?

I am massively partisan and I am dead against having PC and m*c threads in the same forum. It will cause me furious outbreaks of rage followed by a mental breakdown and inevitable ban from the forums.

I used to feel much the same about Windows. Actually, I still feel much the same about Windows, even though I have now had to reinstall XP on a laptop that threw a fit of the vapours. I lived to tell the tale.

I am not partisan but for just that reason can we keep them separate? ;)

Mac Hardware & Software

We could, and I'd be happy with that. However, there are cases where software questions might arise on stuff that is cross-platform.

If the Mac and PC forums are merged, and as long as folk remember to mark their post subject with [Win], [Lin], [Mac], [iOS], whatever, we should be able to rub along together.

I like this approach I must admit.
