What socket is the old board? 775?
And I presume its P35 then? Apparently P35 can cause some problems, but it seems to be working ok on my mate's P5K Delux.
Works brill on my old Compaq cpu/mobo (which is a G31 chipsetted pile of turd) except for the LAN doesn't work right. :/

And I thought Bish's thread went off-topic. Good job guys.
Linux, I'd be interested to see your pics, if you'd care to post them. As for the software nonsense, there's no need. I drive a Skoda. It's quicker, cheaper and better built than a Golf GTI. Do I constantly bang on to every VW owner about how superior I am? No. I just make the choice that I want to make and if somebody asks me about it, I tell them.
Also, there's no such thing as an OS that's completely impervious to a virus or some kind of attack - FACT. Everything is relative.

Turns out my spare pc (P965 Gigabyte mobo) is perfect for a hackintosh.... Just need to sort out a new wireless card for it, installing it now and it seems to be going fine

Fin- Set up ICS on your Windows PC and run a crossover lead from it to the Hackintosh. Works fine for me, as I'm yet to install the PCI devices patch.
Also, don't do a Apple software update (from the main Apple menu, where About this Mac is) as it will knacker your Hackintosh up. Use a 3rd party software updater, or hunt the "sites" for service packs or whatever the Mac equivalent is.

I can't use the crossover cable approach, The router is on the ground floor, hackintosh 1st floor, my pc & gaming room 2nd floor (I found the adapter that works out the box though) http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5982219/A ... oduct.htmlIt's installing now on iAtkos so will use the update stuff I have when I get it sorted (if this one works, iDeneb crashed on disk integrity check...will skip it next time if I need to)

iDeneb will crash because its obv checking for correct checksums, and because its modded it won't have correct checksums. Ignore it and it should continue OK.
I'm running iPC on my spare mobo/cpu now. Works doohippy, but again my network card is being stupid and not getting an IP. :/

Should work fine with a 8400gs. The x300 will be better than the gfx on my hackintosh though, Intel GMA 3100. There aren't even any drivers for it, and the X3100 and GMA 950 ones are totally different. Might save up for something cheap like a 8600gt or something.
