Plus, if he bought a car second hand and didn't immediately do an oil change and fluids top-up then he's a numpty! Surely if he's had it 2 months and never done anything about the oil then he's the one who caused the problem!?

First thing I always do when I buy a second hand car is get it serviced.

Off topic (although I'd agree, he doesn't have a leg to stand on), but a colleague was looking at a Nissan Figaro last night.
The current owner has had it for 65,000 miles and has never serviced it because she's a dirty Totnes type who probably thinks it runs on moonbeams and has chakras.

Which is why nobody should buy that car.

I replied in the end, saying it wasn't my fault, I didn't know of any issues with the car, that it was his car now and not mine and that he was very welcome to contact the police.

He replied saying let's forget it. I don't know if he was trying to pull 'a fast one', trying his luck, realised he'd backed himself into a corner where he either had to take legal action which would fail or threaten me and see what happened; I dont know. But hey, at least it's done and I don't need to worry about it :)

Thanks for all the advice guys.

Part of me thinks he may have had some third party advice about where he stands, otherwise he would have pushed a bit harder if he were a chancer. IMO. All's well that ends well. Or something.

Yeah I was thinking maybe he went away and did some research, would make sense, especially as I sat on replying until I'd done mine too.
