How do you sort the wheat from the chaff with the hundreds of thousands of applications for Windows, or Linux or OS X? ;)

Why would I buy a fart app? I just don't need it, my girlfriend keeps threatening to kick me out the house, so I don't need any extra help!

In that example, does it matter? It's a fart app! ;)

Presumably you might want to look for a review of a given fart app, like you would with anything else.

The reviews are a good place to start when looking for apps. Also check if there is a light fart app version so you can try it for free before you buy. Just as well the iPhone doesn't have smellyvision :P

That will be a feature in a future edition of the iPhone OS

Is there a cockroach-killing app? Or has it been removed because there's a bug in it? :D

Not that I could find, though curiously there is an insect repellant app.

What I don't understand is why Dan Brown's new book is £14.99 as an iPhone application, when I can get the actual book for less than half that price from Amazon :?

Peter.

I would imagine that is record company logic being used in pricing it.

And the fact there's only one store, so the publisher really can set the price.

Don't forget that I'm first in the queue to give you my money. (8+)

Yes but that still does not explain the pricing.

Well no-one can undercut them. They can set any price they reckon they can achieve, and still be the cheapest around. Anyone wanting to read the book on their iPhone/iPod touch has to pay that price. They must assume it's realistic.

I cant see them selling many. If you wanted the book you could get the book and save money at the same time. Though a few might buy it just because they can.
