How do you sort the wheat from the chaff with the hundreds of thousands of applications for Windows, or Linux or OS X?

Why would I buy a fart app? I just don't need it, my girlfriend keeps threatening to kick me out the house, so I don't need any extra help!

What I don't understand is why Dan Brown's new book is £14.99 as an iPhone application, when I can get the actual book for less than half that price from Amazon  Peter. _________________A Mac user

Well no-one can undercut them. They can set any price they reckon they can achieve, and still be the cheapest around. Anyone wanting to read the book on their iPhone/iPod touch has to pay that price. They must assume it's realistic.

I cant see them selling many. If you wanted the book you could get the book and save money at the same time. Though a few might buy it just because they can.
