I've tried contacts, once, for about 20 minutes. Freaked me out so much I walked out of the opticians, round the corner to my friends house and hid in his living room until I could go back and have them removed. Never again. I much prefer the world through frames.

My prescription is +2 sph and -3 cyl (at around 180 axis) in each eye.
Although my previous prescription was -2 sph and +3 cyl with 90 axis.
I'm guessing that it's two different ways of saying the same thing?

Aww, I always thought I'd hate them, I'm realy squeamish about anything to do with eyes, but the optician who let me try them was really good, he didn't try to put them in for me, he told me how to put them in myself and was really helpful and patient, I've been fine with them ever since. I wear the monthly disposable ones so I put them in and leave them in for a month, can't feel them at all, it's great!!

You will be - it comes with old age. Funnily enough my eyes are fine it's the muscles controlling the focus that have given up the ghost. Apparently this affliction affects everybody within a certain age range. Really screws up my chimping... Al

I think it took me a couple of very very frustrating weeks until I could put lenses in with confidence and now just use daily disposable lenses when I need to. It was quite surprising to see what a 'normal' view of the world looked like compared to the distorted version my glasses had given me.

Glasses are so inconvenient.
I wear lenses and it's good. They're supposed to last a month but I find they get dry and itchy after about three weeks.
Anyone had laser surgery? I'm thinking about doing it but I'm a bit put off by the risks.

I have looked into this a few times and it works best on people whose eyesight is mildly defective, i.e. slightly short or long sighted. For people whose eyesight is quite bad (like me) they would have to laser off quite a bit of the cornea to match the strength of the glasses and it is quite likely that in such cases your eyesight would be improved but you'd probably still need glasses....just weaker ones. That was the case when I asked my optician about it a year ago so might be worth talking to your optician when you next have an appointment. My other half had her shortsightedness corrected quite a while ago before the days of laser surgery. Incisions were made on her cornea with a scalpel ! Worked though!

My mate's had it. It was expensive, but according to him he should have had it done years ago. Mark

Mine used to do that, until I stopped by the Tesco pharmacy and asked for some false tears suitable for contact lenses. I put them in about 2 weeks into my month and everything is hunky dory until the end of the month. Sometimes I even forget that the month is up I thought about it but it's so expensive and the one company I contacted with an enquiry have been hassling me ever since so I've been put right off. my mum had both eyes done and had cataracts cleared as well, she has to wear reading glasses sometimes when she's tired, but otherwise she's got the best vision she's ever had in her life!! When she first got it done she kept calling me to ask me if I knew how bright red the "somethings" in the garden were, or why I hadn't told her what a hideous green her favourite shirt is etc etc. It took her a few months to start re-recognising all the clothes owned by my dad

My step mum had it years ago. She was very short sighted and it fixed her perfectly. She hasn't had a problem since having it done (over 10 years ago).
My Dad had it done more recently (maybe 4 years ago) and he had the same prescription as me (short sighted and astigmatism) and he came out still needing glasses. They offered to do the surgery again but it would be higher risk the second time so he refused.
I went for all the interviews for the surgery and in the end the surgeons refused because of my prescription and I had some unusual blind spots.

The whole notion of laser eye surgery is really, really off putting. I don’t think I couldd trust anyone with my vision (unless it was absolutely necessary), and I certainly would not trust a sausage factory clinic to do the job. I’d want to be seen by a specialist - a proper eye doctor.
