I don't need to grow a 'tasche to remember my cousin was too proud (read stupid) to see a GP about a lump, only to later be ravaged by testicular cancer for two painful & heartbreaking years before he died. :x

A month of men growing facial hair might raise awareness & some money for a good cause, but it doesn't change the fact that too many men are still masochistly machismo about their health.

Movember is quite specific about what qualifies for inclusion:
http://uk.movember.com/faq/#faq-200
Quote:
ARE GOATEES OR BEARDS ALLOWED?

The definition of a Moustache:

1. There is to be no joining of the Mo to side burns – That’s a beard.
2. There is to be no joining of the handlebars – That’s a goatee.
3. A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed (aka a tickler).

Remember, it’s Movember, not ‘Beardvember’ or ‘Goateevember’

As a reformed goatee-ist, I thought I'd best check. The moustache experience has been a novel one, and I've noticed more female attention in the last week too...

What's funny is seeing lots of my mates after three weeks still with only a little bit of fluff to show for their efforts. I shaved twelve days ago and had to clip my Van Dyke yesterday.

I'm not doing too badly - a lady friend I only see occasionally didn't immediately recognize me when I was behind her in a queue today - but I wouldn't describe it as 'bushy'. Plus I have a scar on my top lip which makes for a small bald patch. Plus, it's bordering on ginger :D.

Hence the benefits of trying to educate men out of the masochist proudness trap.

Sorry for your loss.

Yep - http://mobro.co/davebrady

I usually have one as part of my beard, but I've been clean shaving the rest of my face which is the most unusual part for me.

I actually feel quite gentlemanly with it.

This is why I don't have a 'tache or beard. Although, in few more years it'll just be grey.

I can grow a pretty convincing beard in about a fortnight, but the itching drives me mad.

I have a 'go-slow' white patch on the bottom left of my beard/stubble. I have to keep it trimmed because they're like cat's whiskers and rock solid, can be a tad painful if I catch them.
