It's been a rental disc that's been handled by a fcuktard

Happens a lot, doesn't it? What on earth do some dimwits do with the discs? The only way round this at my local Blockbusters is to rent subtitled films as most of the customers find it difficult to watch a film and read at the same time.

It's even worse in some ways when it's came off an online rental company, and you know there's a good few days turnaround

From what I've seen of it I will definitely be going to see Avatar.
Whether or no Showcase in Peterborough will have got their finger out and invested in some 3d kit by the time it comes out is another question. Might have to go to Huntingdon instead to get the full experience.

I think we're already heading down the path of CGI casts anyway (Golum anyone). I doubt we'll be seeing the end of actors any time soon, they can bring in a lot of people on the power of their names alone.

I am more wary of upcoming films like TinTin and The Hobbit.....why bother? Yes, I know there are very very few original ideas in Hollywood (apart from perhaps Pixar), but I'm hoping that if Avatar is a bit different then it might inspire someone to make a film that isn't formulaic.

I know what you mean, but if Avatar is as cohesive as it's 'sposed to be, future films like TinTin could be the short term future at the very least...

It’s Tintin - no second capital letter. I have to keep picking the BBC up on the spelling. http://www.tintin.com/

The Tintin film is a concern - partly because I am not sure it needs to be done, but the involvement of Spielberg. Spielberg tends to add layers of saccharine to the stuff he touches, especially his more family orientated output. Knowing he was involved, and knowing that other directors like Scorsese wanted to be, bothered me. I’m just hoping that the script, which seems to be partly by Stephen Moffat (Dr Who) Edgar Wright and Jo Cornish. I can only hope that the writers and Peter Jackson an d reign in Speilberg’s over indulgences. Jackson is pretty good at being true to the source and treating it with respect. Add in Moulinstart’s (who owns Hergé’s estate) control over the characters (which makes Disney look liberal and laissez faire), I’m hoping that the final result will be worthy of the original books.

The major issue is that to hit toe American market, the stories will have to be adjusted. Hergé was very critical of the USA’s involvement in world politics, and this comes over very well in the books. However, the last TV series (by Ellipse/Nelvana) whilst visually good, had all these bits taken out, which made the stories pretty much redundant and rather odd. From what I have read, the film in production is a combination of Crab with the Golden Claws (where Tintin meets Captain Haddock - who is in a drunken stupor on an opium smuggling ship) The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure. Combining these three books gives adequate freedom to trim contentious plot threads that American’s won’t enjoy.

I have yet to be convinced that there needs to be a Tintin movie. It’s been done before with mixed results, heavy on the “poor effort” ingredient. At times, it’s best to leave things “as is”.

Spielberg hasn't directed a good film since Munich, and he hasn't produced any worth watching since either IIRC

Waterworld was underrated. It isn't a brilliant film, but it is interesting and thought provoking. I loved the trimaran!

As to Avatar... Meh, not really my sort of film. I might catch it on TV or DVD, but can't see myself going to the Kino to watch it. Especially if it is 3D.

When 3D doesn't require wearing stupid glasses, that's when I'll start watching it at the cinema.

Leona Lewis to sing theme tune for new James Cameron 3D film Avatar

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/ar ... vatar.html

WTF!? Leona Lewis's songs are so insipid Kenny G probably thinks she's dull   :x

I hope to fcuk Cameron hasn't decided to make this another Titanic, in the sense that your enjoyment hinges on the romance and it's believability for the most part - I'm a bloke ffs, I don't want that crap in my action film

With a film that's almost completely CGI we're gonna need to believe in the characters, and that rarely happens with any kind of 'romance' at the cinema, never mind CGI... I really hope I'm wrong on all of the above :(

I'll be going to watch it in 3D and I'll prob try to go to the iMax in Bradford for reasons I explained in the Channel 4 3D thread.

Also, if it's your first time seeing a 3D film try not to sit at the back of the cinema. Try to sit as close as comfortably possible. It will make the 3D experience better.

I'll bear that in mind if I do go to see this or another 3D film :D

Far as I know, haven't even been to the cinema since Transformers 2 (that would nearly put you off altogether)

I saw a trailer for this film over the weekend and it just looks like every other animated feature film. I really can't get just what all the buzz is about it.
