I like visiting other Countries, but I always get homesick (and quickly!) for blighty.
The people are generally nice, friendly and polite, I know what is expected of me and what I can expect from others, everyone is suitably cynical and sarcastic (including myself), I find there is no substitute for British humour, on the whole I think we have politicians who are actually out to make things better, levels of corruption in public office are low and I can generally go about with my life without being interrupted or questioned by agents of the state.
I like the food (particularly the chocolate!), the culture and the freedom I am afforded to do pretty much anything I want.
I also like the extended benefits I get by being a European Citizen. I quite like the BBC too.
About the only thing I don't like is the level of tax and NI I pay, but then TBH if that pays for quality public services then I'm game for that too.

I love England.
I've lived abroad (although relatively briefly) and really didn't like it at all, as perhaps some will remember.
The thing about the british is that we are pessimistic, and like to moan.
There's really not a lot wrong with our country. Yeah sure we're in debt, but it can be paid off.
Yeah sure there are a few idiots about, but you try and find me a country were there aren't any! The only difference is that british people love to moan and as previously pointed out the press love to highlight every one of the very rare 'teenagers beat an old man to death' stories.
All this 'fabric of society' rubbish is just that - rubbish.
When I'm out and about in my home of Portsmouth people are friendly and normal. It's quite boring really - I've never seen any of these apparently unavoidable teenagers waving knives or mugging people or the mindless violence that plagues every citizen.
And why can I only choose one option? I want to chose have lived abroad and come back and also live in the uk and love it.

I prob live in the socially worst part of Scotland not understanding this threads poll as "UK" is all the nations in the island and its abroad aswell. (falklands, gibralter etc) so it doesnt make sense. Id love to move to India, Im fed up of the ugly ill mannared scum that plague this part of where I live, everywhere I go I just meet vermin. few of many countless examples I could give is few days ago at cinema, disgusting little kretin kicking my chair and i nearly lost it. sweating with rage and anger, I eventually just stood up to block his view and shouted out whilst cinema was still running that I cant stand here due to that idiot kicking chair. said kretin didnt expect that and froze completly. Also today I met up with my mum and she got shoved by a horrid balding man and didn't even get an apology cos where I live its the norm. Its disgusting and I wish sometimes this whole sector was nuked. or burn all the f***ers to death. if I said "UK" that would be generalising so the term "UK"needs to be abolished

Well I've only been away for 60 odd days but Australia has done another good job of highlighting how much I love England. I can't wait to come back to get job hunting.
Of course, some of the things I miss are missed for obvious reasons; friends & family for starters - dear God I miss them (the former more than the latter) - and other things because I've either decided to give them the elbow or take a break from them (cigarettes & drugs respectively).
But there are a great number of things I do miss - and I'm not joking with some of these: the rain, the wind, clouds & the need to wear scarves; Christmas in the cold, being able to enjoy the sun without fearing burning, daylight that doesn't require sunglasses & the ability to wear jeans whatever the weather; big-eating, fruit and veg that doesn't sacrifice taste for gigantism, reasonably priced bread and the legal measure of a pint; London public transport, the compactness of English cities, the sub-5min walk to the shop, towns & architectural density; the absence of venomous arachnids & snakes, water without sharks and other killer aquatic life & tidal rips; stylish advertising, the BBC & up to date music, TV and movies; ethnic diversity, the class system & a cultural history beyond one or two "stories"; post-work drink culture, sarcastic humour, London-bubble-anonymity & English fighting; sensibly compact cars, English driving, parking, traffic lights & pedestrian crossings...

The UK means what it always means. It doesn't mean the Falklands, Gibraltar or any of the other territories. It doesn't even include the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, save for nationality purposes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom

God bless the British for knowing how to queue. When I first went skiing in Austria I nearly spent the night at the top of the slope because I was queuing. Trouble is nobody else was. I only managed to get down after pushing old women and children out of the way but that's how it's done there. Oh, and Bratty, you meet kretins all over the world, moving a country will not solve that problem. But then you also meet great people both here and abroad.

That's one of my biggest annoyances with Oz. "Jeez that tomato's delicious, look at the soize of it!", "Yeah, but it doesn't taste of anything", "yeah, but it's delicious, look at the soize of it!" I thought I was alone in that. What seemed to get to me most about the country was the god damn sprawl of the place. A result of having so much space I guess. I've got so many friends who've moved to Oz and I just don't see the appeal. Well, I see the obvious appeals, but it's not the country for me, I'm just too European.

btw just a note, my above "rant" was an experiment (reverse psycology) If I be really negative and overreact with something then the opposite will happen and it did have good day all

I'm failing to see where. Reverse psychology is only applicable if you're changing someones viewpoint rather than expressing one yourself and having people respond to your negativity.

I've been there. A friend of mine's parents live nearby and we went down there once. Not pleasant at all, hard to find anywhere that sold anything but egg and chips.
