See, that's what I'm worried about Is there lots of waiting for the talking and dancing around each other in the middle to stop, while you wait for the kick-off?

This is a James Cameron film. Epic in scale and big on cinematic feel. If you hated Titanic (as I did at first), there are some parallels to be drawn. This guy is at the top of his game with technology to let him realize whatever the hell he wants. There are mechs (who doesn't love that?!) There is a James Horner score (marmite, I'm sure, but I dug it) The pyros, miniguns, helos, Michelle Rodriquez and general military aspect (did I mention mechs? ) blow T2 and Aliens combined completely out of the North Atlantic This was my second movie in "Real 3D", with Up being my first. This was amazing with real actors and not animation. From now on, anything 3D will be seen in 3D AFAIC. The new mo-cap tech is stunning and pisses all over Gollum and Kong. I was genuinely moved (but then I'm a bit of a softy) For those hating, this will probably seem a little like Episode 1 did after George Lucas raved so much about advances in tech. Also, if your Richard Dawkins and don't "believe" in anything and reject "fluffy wuffy spiritual tree-hugging nonsense" you might be inclined to think that Jim has laboured his point. And I can totally appreciate that viewpoint. However for me, this was pure cinema and up there with the greatest. I was enchanted and with the 3D, it felt like I had stepped onto another planet. Breathtaking.

I agree that technologically it's very good. I agree even more with the labouring-the-point point. This film could have been over in 1.5hours. Instead it's been dragged out to three.

WOW! Went to see the film with a mate. We sat right at the front, not normally the best place to view a normal film but to watch a 3D film! It left me dumbstruck! Don't know if sitting at the front made the whole 3D experience more profound but it was a visual feast. The storyline is how you would expect a Hollywood blockbuster storyline to pan but as a visual experience...simply stunning! If anyone here is thinking about going, all I'll say is go, and sit at the front. Really really enjoyable.

We saw it at home. I think you can guess how. We "aquired" the 3d version, and used those little polarized glasses to watch it. We have a huge CRT TV (I think it's 50", one of the biggest Toshiba made), and it does look awesome. But the story is borning, and the film itself makes no sense. Although I wonder what hardware they used to render it; apparently it's been rendering away since 1997!

I'm not gonna rant about piracy for the sake of it. However, you haven't seen this movie at it's best and it deserves to be seen at it's best. It's only a few quid FFS!

I'm not saying the quality was rubbish (1080p rip FTW), it was just the film and storyline itself is a little dissapointing. The effects are stunning, and it's probably the best looking CGI film for a very long time. But I just found the story meh at best.

No. I am. Compared to the experience I had, the experience you had was rubbish and it annoys me that anyone would baulk at paying a few quid to see any film they were interested in, given the opportunity. Movies are made for cinemas. That's just how it is. Do I have home cinema stuff? Sure. But I always make the trip for anything I'm interested in, because that's where the best experience is to be had. Simple. People need to stop getting hung up on "the story". This movie is pure cinema. The story is merely a part of the equation that makes for an outstanding cinematic experience. An important part sure, but not the only one.

Apparently so. Leeds, is £20 too much? IMAX 3D is a hell of an experience. Non-IMAX with food was £12 for me.

My local cinema is usually £4.30 or there abouts. I wouldn't pay £20 just to see a film; you could get a proper 3 course meal with wine and strippers for less than that.

That's not good enough for me. Apocalypse Now had a totally rubbish story (in my opinion) but it was visually gobsmackingly, awestrinkingly phenomenal. I won't watch it again because as a whole, it left me feeling empty when it was over. I don't watch films just for the spectacle, I watch it to be engaged by the story first and foremost, enjoying the visuals is secondary. With more and more films these days employing VFX I find that the story is becoming more important to me. I know Titanic was a technological breakthrough when it was first released but the story left me cold. T2 was a technological breakthrough when it was first released and the story engaged. I'm inadvertently hearing a lot of bad things about the story of Avatar which is giving me pause for thought. Mark
