and yes, I don't like those either. In fact the whole "celtic/eastern symbol" thing has gone way to far IMO with the yoof. This isn't that. But hey, each to their own. Maybe it's beautiful to me because I know the story behind it and I'm part of that? I just think there's too much judgement about tattoos and I used to be a part of that. Tattoos can be a great form of personal expression, or they can be "tramp stamps", as you guys point out. Spunky, that's pretty cool. I've not seen anything like it before.

Well she is half-French The thing is, depends on the person. My friend doesn't display hers much and it's a spiritual and personal thing for her. Looking at your wiki article and reading around the web, I'm reminded of exactly what you're talking about and I don't like it either. However, putting a tattoo in that position shouldn't guarantee any such perceptions. It's what the tattoo is about and how it's displayed IMO.

Ew, tattoos, no thanks. I like my women unspoilt. If I was in a position to hire someone if they had a tattoo that made them look unprofessional then they're not getting a job either.

And I think this is a big discrimination that many people go through. If the person is completely capable and not interacting with customers, why not? If they can cover it up, why not? Most people that I've met who have tattoos know some people find them offensive, and will do all they can to cover them up when it's appropriate.

Right, I've just taken a pic of my tattoo, but I'm not sure if any of you would thank me for posting my woolly chest.

Go for it. They'll all have seen something more horrific on 4chan.

....... you have GOT to be kidding I personally hate tatoos, it makes humans look hardy and tinky like the ones u see wearing football shirts and tinky tatoos all up their arms, my sis has one just below the neck, it looks awful. people who decide to vandalise themselves are not normal I guess

Tattoos?
I really dislike them. I have yet to see one that enhances anything. On my older patients they look particularly gross. Most of the older people I know really regret having had them done. Several of my patients with tattoos had another tattoo put over the top of the first one because they have grown to hate the original one so much. This never looks good either.
I would advise anyone to go with henna or temporary tattoos. That way you can change your mind, change your design or simply try out a design for a year or so to make sure that you like it. The rest of you life is a long time.

Prof, I like it. What is it?
Can those of you who've stated your dislike for tattoos be a bit more specific as to why? Is it the look, or the generalisation that comes with them?
And Mr Linux_User, do you not feel a little judgemental that you would turn someone down simply on the fact that they have made a choice to get a tattoo?

It's a little celtic knot inside a sun. Here's the pretentious wank about what it means to me - I've kind of wanted one since I was 15, and about 10 years later I had it done as I felt I needed something permanent in my life. It's got it's own (obvious, I suppose) symbolism about my family back ground, and the fact it's a sun on my chest, over my heart also matters. Also, it's not obvious and it's rare that anybody gets to see it. So consider yourselves lucky!

I would only get a tattoo if it meant something to me. I would never get one for the hell of it.
