Because many people wouldn't know how to. Plus, if I give an organ, it's because I'm generous. Not because the government see me as a resource rather than a person.

Having lived in a house hold of medical students for a couple of years I know what "fun" they have with donated organs, bodies etc. sorry to be able to confirm they redefine the word sick.

That already happens. I did my license application four years ago and that's when I opted-in.

Yep, I'm on the register and any & all bits of me are free for use after I'm finished with them. I do believe the system should be opt-in though and it's up to the person to make sure their relatives know how they feel. I know that in the event I snuff it my loved ones will sign away anything of me that can be used. I'm happy with that.

How about you must opt-in if you ever want to receive an organ. I know some people will never be suitable for donation, but it may scare a few more people into donating.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I've never got so far as to thinking about it seriously, although I'm contemplating putting myself on the register. So long as I'm suitably dead when I go under the spare-parts knife, I'm cool. Not that anybody would want any part of my body.. it's all clapped out and I'm only ~20!

That's an excellent idea. I don't see why my descendants should be lumbered with the cost if I can pay with a pound of flesh. Once they harvest me, the remaining empty shell can be burned in the hospital incinerator along with all the other medical waste.

I like opt out. You don't need your body after you're dead, so why not do something useful. And it's not "for the government" it's for some family out there to enjoy life together a bit longer. i don't get the "i do'nt want bits of me to go to someone who doesn't deserve them" Who would you be to judge that?

Well being the current owner/occupier I would say that it could give you some right. You can choose how your estate is dealt with after your death, I suppose it depends on what you corpse is classed as at that point.

+1 Just because you're dead doesn't give you the right to decide who lives. A transplant might give an otherwise selfish person a complete change of heart. pun unavoidable

Personally I'd prefer it to go towards helping anyone rather than rotting in a hole or being incinerated.

Anyone better than no one I guess. But what if you could choose between two people receiving something and could judge them or their lifestyle?
