No TVs in the bedrooms either, just in the lounge and in the party room - currently only DVDs, we need to run a second cable from the satellite dish down to the cellar...

I have a tv in my bedroom, big 32" jobbie, but it's because my room is fairly sectioned to my entertainment/work area and my sleep area and I can't see the tv when I'm in bed

Well they obviously watch more than I did but then it wasn't on 24 hours a day and for quite a while there were only three channels.

Funnily enough in Finland there are only a few state channels and they're not on all day. A coincidence that their kids don't start school till the age of 7, receive less hours teaching and yet are one of the highest performing nations in Europe?

In Sweden they do not start school till 7 and again do very well. Our kids start at 4 and are still way behind at ten.

Finland has 5 million inhabitants, Sweden 9 million, it's a lot easier to get high standards there than with 80+ million British. To be honest, I've seen schools in the UK, in France or other places and i'm actually quite impressed to see the kids being able to read and write in English/French by the time they're 12 considering the background, delay, illiteracy of the home.

Well, there aren't 80+million Brits but I don't see why that's necesserily a factor.

It's closer to 60 million but that's the thing with numbers... you can make them mean anything you like.

It's like the man said. There are lies, damned lies and statistics...
