Well clearly he is a lousy shot. In Sweden before you go hunting you have to undertake an annual shooting test to ensure that you can kill cleanly with a single shot. You can take the test three times If you still have not passed you are banned from hunting for a year, till the next test. We could do with that here.

from what i remember you only have to take the test once and then unless your caught doing something naughty you never need to re-qualify, i was wolf hunting in the winter with the girlfriends relatives up in Rånas, but one thing i like here is this little rule, you miss you go find it

Wounded animals
The Swedish hunting laws are very strict, particularly regarding wounded animals. When hunting ungulates it is a requirement that a specially trained tracker dog can be available within two hours. For certain bird species it is a requirement that a dog is present during the shoot.

I have family up near Sündsvall and as they have the right to one and half reindeer each year. They took the test last year before the hunt.

How does the 'half' a reindeer work exactly? :)

jonbwfc I was behind her in a queue today - but I wouldn't describe it as 'bushy'.

A calf basically. Though I never wanted to go on a hunt once I heard how much a calf screams once shot.

I expect most babies scream in agony when shot. All except those babies kill outright.

I might be being a bit simplistic here but surely if they were killed with the first shot they wouldn't be screaming much would they? Or doing anything else for that matter? :?

People occasionally only wound the animal. Though the adult elk stay silent so you have to track it down if you only wound it.
