Godawful thing. Nowhere near as good as my iphone or my old HD2 for email (& I thought the HD2 was a bit ropey, I take it all back)

+1

Crackberry for work which I hate and iPhone for personal

I'm a crackberry owner myself (no work phone thank fuq) - it's a hoot compared to the standard candy bars I've had to date - yes, I do regret opting for the 3G-less 8520 + 360 bundle over a standalone 8900 (which as 3G) as surfing anything off-wifi is a tad slow, but I've played with iphones and androids and I just can't get into them. I guess I'm still very much a tactile-button kinda guy.

And since yesterday I've been experimenting with streaming my entire music library using winamp remote, which I know you can do on other devices, but still - pretty damn cool. 8-)

As for the OP request, seriously, just get someone at carphone warehouse to do it all for you, they're quite willing to do it all. (that is unless I'm just immensly fortunate with 3 stores in v.close proximity all with v.handy staff)

This.

These kind of comments are pointless unless you state what device it is you have and what is wrong it.

Let me demonstrate why you should state the device and the reasons:

1. BB Bold 8300 is THREEE years old phone. If you state that a three year old phone is worse then a current iphone your comment has absolutely no value to anybody.
2. BES is not something that common user has to worry about. Linux user wanted a phone for personal use, why do you have to drag BES into? Anyway, BES has it's advantages too, just because you don't want to use doesn't mean that is a bad thing to have.

So after threee [sic] years a phone is no longer fit for purpose? Ignore the bit about iPhones and it still stands that the users Dave supplied with BBs didn't get on with them at all.

Correct, the director had his Blackberry for email, a Nokia 6310 for phone calls and an Palm PalmOS device for contacts and appointments!

Edit: Now he has the iPhone for mail, contacts and appointments and a Nokia for telephone calls... :?

Of course the phone is fit for purpose. But BigD says that keyboard a user interface is poor. Don't you think that a new BB will have entirely different keyboard and UI after three years?

If you don't know the answer let me tell you: Yes it will.

So what is the point comparing three year old BB with current phones?

He didn't compare:

He stated that for the last three years users have hated the keyboard and interface, then he stated that the directors had just got iPhones and everyone wanted one.

Where did he do a comparison?

I've seen a lot of Blackberries around recently and I don't think I would want one, but I wouldn't commit to that unless I'd used it for a week or two.
One funny thing is that people round here seem to be buying Blackberries for personal use because they are a cheap smartphone, people who I've talked to really wanted an iPhone but liked the cheaper price of the Blackberry, even though it's sh*te (their words not mine)...

I don't see why it should unless there were issues with it. And if there were such fundamental issues (for a phone/smartphone) that weren't picked up by basic usability testing I'd seriously question the companies commitment to usability, which is surely one of the primary requirements of any reduced-screen/limited input device. (I'm just about resisting the temptation to ask how different the iPhone UI/keyboard was 3 years ago...)

And for a phone, if the users can't use it, then I'd say it would be unsuitable for its purpose. If you're saying the solution to Dave's problems is to upgrade all of his users after only three years, then I don't think that shows a very good track record. I wouldn't want to have to upgrade all my users again in another 3 years time.

Ok, I take it back, he didn't compare. He said that Bold 8300 is phone that his user didn't like because of the keyboard and UI.
The thing is, this information was irrelevant for OP as he was not considering 3 year old phone.

If you are talking about OP I think you misunderstood. From what I understand he wanted a BB because of the BB Messenger (BBM).
With BBM you can send messages between BBs for free anywhere in the world without any limits. So if his friends abroad have BB and he has one too he can chat with them without additional costs. So it has nothing to do with a device costs.

And as for being shlte, we already know what OP thinks:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=9585&start=15#p142870

And if somebody gets a phone that he knows is not suited for him he is an idiot. BB are not for everybody, just as iphones and androids aren't, there is no point arguing about that.

I think you just don't want to understand ;)
Go and find reviews for Bold 8300 on youbube and compare it with Bold 9700 (old v current BB). Or compare 8300 with then current 3gs. Even I would want to swap from 8300 to iphone 3gs three moths ago if I was given a choice. Not that 8300 is bad but why not get better if you can.

I think you just want to argue for the sake of...

Why all the bashing about going off topic when you yourself revived this thread by going off topic? ( viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8518#p145581 )
I'm just joining in what people are talking about, Blackberries. The OP has pretty much had his question answered and had it answered over a month ago.
I'm just adding what little experience I have with Blackberries into the fray.

Seriously Koli, you need to chill.

I wanted a thread about BBs and I didn't want to open another one. That is the only reason I posted here. So now we have.iphone, android a BB threads. Surely nothing wrong with that.
;)
And yes, I am chilled, thank you very much. Just a heated debate and I don't think I am being rude. But feel free to tell me when I am close to getting banned again. ;)
