No, I think the world has clearly moved on since we thought his style of music was worth the listen.

It's time Royaume-Uni gracefully bowed out of the Eurovision thing. It began life as a way of sharing TV and broadcast technology and ideas across Europe. Now it's spread to places we'd never heard of when I was a kid and eagerly awaited the competition each year.

I saw about two acts and the voting. It's not the same when the french speaking presenter doesn't say nil points.

Also just read a review on the BBC saying that the whole thing has modernised (except the UK entry) and a goodbye to political voting. Well I don't know what voting they saw but to me it appeared as though countries were very much biased towards their neighbours.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Didn't see it, didn't need to; I accept that politcal voting makes our entry a waste of money and time (as well as our presence within the whole thing). Also why on earth give the choice of music over to the British public, an entity that, through participation in the likes of Britain's Got Talent and X Factor, has proved that it shouldn't be given responsibility over anything vaguely related to taste?

Having said that, other entries can sometimes be pretty stunning.

Apparently there was some minx in a leather catsuit that may or may not have fitted that description ;)

It's a testament to how great you all are here that this didn't rear it's ugly head, not even in The Meeting Place.
Thank you, one and all.

Mark

I have to say I was a little surprised to find no thread, but I think all the biggest fans on here were busy watching it.

I rather liked the German entry. She had a bit of a Kate Nash sound going on, which I wasn't really expecting from that far outside London. She was also ridiculously cute, which didn't hurt. I'd love to know what her accent was; she sounded more like Björk than someone from Hannover.

There were some other pretty decent entries. Ours was not one of them. We thoroughly deserved our last place, although there was real competition from Belarus.

Political voting has happened every year. Just Look at Greece and Cyprus votes, 12 points to each other every year regardless. I am not surprised that Russia gets so high a vote from the Baltic states as some have as many as 40% ethnic russians making up the population.

Let's face it, the UK entry was awful, I'd much happily listen to my own tinnitus.

Artists in the UK don't need the Eurovision, it is a joke for us, but it's not for those countries where artists will never have the opportunity, otherwise, to perform infront of an international audience.

Personally, I loved Armenia's apricot stones..... sorry, apricot stone was it? Wasn't listening, was she saying something? :D

Yes, it's a pity the films themselves weren't as watchable... I was on the netbook when Four were showing the first one - even on mute it was still too retarded to sit through :(

I was not supremely engrossed in the plot, probably just dribbling over Kate and the catsuit.

What's daft is we have a country that has masses of artsists with musical talent why don't we just get a sensible act.

Then again whos gonna agree to that.

As the years go on I'm beginning to wonder whether the film version of LOTR, rather than being a monumental classic worthy of mulitple oscars, was in fact just simply a load of old toss with an overracting gollum, some smug elves and a constipated hobbit. In fact with the exception of Gandalf's voice, I think everything else just irritates me now. The scenes with just music and New Zealand scenery are of course always watchable, but then there are much better David Attenborough documentaries for this sort of entertainment.

I thought that upon watching the first instalment of the unreadable turned into the unwatchable. It really is a self-indulgent, overly long, meaningless piece of tosh. I likened it to watching someone play an arcade video game, "oh look you have cleared that level" <big sweeping view of the characters moving on to the next level> "oh good I get to watch you clear another level". The only problem was the money tends to run out faster in the arcade.

Just why does it take 9 hours to tell a very simple, very succinct story?

By the way does this thread take the prize for going off-topic in the quickest time....in fact was it ever on-topic?
