And I'm sure Adidan would be happy for you to quote him in your official report!

I was thinking of sending him a link to the site... Erm... then again I wouldn't want him to join so maybe not.

This reminds me of questionnaires we once did at work. They were about patient satisfaction. I tried to keep it as simple as possible, enough so even someone with a low IQ could understand it. My colleague tried to do a fancy one that made no sense whatsoever. Very few of his were returned completed by patients whereas mine had a decent return rate.

Just punch him. Seriouly just go all Fight Club / Michael Douglass in Falling Down, etc and hit him until he has a revelation. I dont know this bloke and I already think he's a grade A class 1 **** of the highest order.
Or.... if you dont want to get the sack just email the boss with some examples of industry standard dialogues and a link to the plain English campaign.

Surely the software should be the talking point, rather than creating a non-standard question to grab attention, or is it that poor?

For the rest of the program that I used it all seemed to work OK. It did what was expected etc... It was only actually a mistake on my part that caused this pop up to appear (i.e. I had forgotten that I'd made a change to the job I was in). When I saw it I just couldn't work out what to do so I raised the point. I thought of another flaw in this pop up. What happens if you open a job and make some changes but then get distracted for an hour. When you come back to your computer you hit close and are confronted with this option. No, I DO want to save the changes I've made. The only way to do that is to hit No, which then does nothing and keeps the job open. I now have to click OK in order to actually Save and Close the job. Not only is it more complicated and confusing but it's less useful at the same time.

Yup, any simple task, like shutting down a programme, that needs more time spent thinking about it than doing it is fundamentally flawed.

The boss just had a word with him then me about yesterday (I don't know if this was triggered by the other guy or my boss). He told me that he had had a word with this guy regarding his immovability when other people suggest things that he didn't think of. A number of people have mentioned this to my boss and I don't think he realised that he does it. Basically if he thinks of something which someone else suggests a change to that could improve it (or possibly not) then he won't listen to your reasoning and gets stuck in this loop of I know what I've done and I'm not changing it. He also said I could have backed down and escalated it which is fair enough but it was such a minor thing that I felt escalating it was unnecessary. But he did point out that he thought my suggestion was correct. Either way, we've both been told to not argue so much over things and he's been told to listen to people's ideas and ACTUALLY understand them. That's a good thing. LOL, he actually suggested to the boss that he should just tell people that he does understand their point before rejecting it and that would be OK. He doesn't seem to realise that he NEEDS to ACTUALLY understand and use the understanding to make a decision. Now, hopefully, he'll change that dialog

Will he had a "Maybe" or "Meh!" option?

Maybe he'll make it a bit clearer by asking "Are you not sure that you don't want to cancel the changes that you possibly didn't make?"

Of course, there's the subsidiary dialog that pops up asking you to confirm you're absolutely sure the last choice was possibly the incorrect option.

I think it would be nice to have a "On a scale of 1-10 how much would you not like to save your changes?"
Then you choose, and you can randomly decide whether to save the changes or not, based on the users wish.
Of course, a 0/10 "Yes, I definitely want to save my changes" would not give a probability of 1 that your changes would be saved.
It would just make the day a little bit more exciting, not knowing whether your work is saved or not.
