Yeah lol Such is the nature of this forum I feel I could ask anything. Besides my actual question was if you are ignoring warnings about the sun. I didn't expect that many people to be bronzed and would be worried if they were. I think most of the people here are intelligent enough to be careful.

I wear a hat as I have no hair for protection and I don't want cancer of the skull. I wear long sleeved tops (mostly). I don't lounge about in the sun. Basically, I'm just sensible about being out in the sun. That is, when it's sunny, because it's really not that often we I get to see the sun these days.

This was my first thought! I voted no. I find it very boring to just lie there and burn. However, I love being out in it and I'm fortunate enough to live in a stunning part of the world in which to enjoy it. Unfortunately, in the course of being at the beach and throwing a frisbee around back in early July I severely burnt my back and chest and even now, I'm not sure my skin is back to it's old happy self. I went through tons of almost pure aloe to treat it. Aside from that, since taking up sailing I have a tan that runs from my upper arms, to my wrists where I've been wearing t-shirt and gloves and even this is peeling this week after a particularly sunny race last weekend. I'm off the opinion that you never can be to careful now and I try to cover up, rather than wear sunscreen.

I live in the tropics and do everything I can to avoid the sun. When I am exposed it is with a hat and suncreen and I can't believe what the holiday makers get up to.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

No – indeed if I am on holiday / outside a lot then I use a high factor sunscreen. The last thin g I want on a holiday is to get burnt on the 1st day of any holiday. Having said that I have no objection to getting brown – my main concern is not getting burnt

Well, being of a ginger persuasion I basically catch fire in direct sunlight (I managed to get surn burn going for a walk under trees at 9 am a few years ago) so it's a very definite no from me. Factor 50+ FTW

I don't sunbathe, I wear a hat when I'm out in the sun and when I am going for a long walk or a bike ride, I wear sunlotion (30+).

Nope, not at all. For a start, I prefer to be asleep in times of daylight.

No, I have too short an attention span - any more than 5 minutes lying still in daylight and I have to get up and go for a walk.
I have one or two leatherette colleagues and to quote a Mr Burton C Bell, "I don't want to live that way"...

And once more I enter a thread where I take an entirely different approach to all those who've posted before....
That's right. I sunbathe. Oh yes indeedy. I love the sun. I can quite happily bask in the sun for hours upon end with little or no need for any other distraction. Music is obviously nice, as is a cold drink of some kind, and somewhere to jump in for a swim is also a welcome addition to sun worship. My family are all the same, and I'm the milkiest of the lot at the end of a good summer - but my other lifestyle persuasions counter my efforts to match their bronzing.

But snowy, when you say sunbathe - what do you mean?
Sitting in the garden with a pint, a few tunes and a BBQ doesn't count as sunbathing for me.
Sunbathing, IMO, is lying outside with the single aim of getting a sun-tan. You might be with a couple of other people, but not necessarily.

I call that vampire mode. I do that all the time especially when it is very hot.
