Me and the FrenchUn haven't been non-distance since we've been together. Think we're at our furthest now, mind. It's going to continue this way for the foreseeable future, but we have railcards and a trainline.

I think some people here will remember my long-distance relationship. I was with someone on the old CPC forums for 4 whole years, I lived in Salisbury while he was in Scotland.

In my opinion, they can work if both people work for it. When I was in this relationship, I was the one who would travel to Scotland every month for a week, he wouldn't travel to see me - his reason? I don't like travelling for 8 hours. I had to travel for 8 hours to see him, but I was willing to do it.

It only didn't work after 4 years because he became withdrawn and kept blackmailing me (some people probably didn't know that!)

Me and my current guy were in a distance relationship for 2 weeks before I moved into his parents home - because I didn't want to live at home anymore, and now we've been together for over a year.

Same. That and the fact that we're both willing to travel, or if I have to drive then she usually donates towards my petrol and either waits up until I arrive or has a brew going. Personally, I'm desperate to get my motor back on the road and get over to Northants. Still getting used to being properly apart, things have just moved too quickly what with housing and work.. a week apart at respective homes has gone straight into our IY's, which is two weeks apart at a time. >.<

Can't Skype at the minute since all my internet is via my phone. Need student loans to come in soonish - means I can afford to fill up the car and hoof it all the way over to the Midlands in time for dinner. ;-)

I hate to throw a dampner on things here but, as I see it, she isn't prepared to compromise in the slightest and starts throwing her toys out if/when you raise the issue.

Sorry but I don't see this relationship lasting.

Not my words but my opinion :)

When I was in Reading I drove/trained 700 miles round trip once a month and my gf went on the train once a month also so we saw each other once a fortnight.

Was it expensive? Oh yes
Was it worth it? Definitely

Unless both are willing to work at it it's not worth working at. I'm looking at places in London (not sure if my plans will fall into place) but we agreed to seriously sit down and talk it out, as she can't afford the living costs without a full time job (and even some full time jobs it would be the vast majority of post tax income on rent), so we have to decide how we are going to go about it.

Well I managed to pin her down for a convo. today.

I raised my concerns, she raised hers.

All in all, now, with everything on the table and all misconceptions cleared, I feel a lot better about the whole thing, and hopefully things can continue as normal (for those who are interested, she conceded visits and moving away from London, stating that she'd rather be with me than there, so that's nice).

I'm still stuck on the sentence she doesn't like Cornwall lol. Probably one of the most beautiful places in the country IMO.

As the others have said if she's not willing to travel something is up.

A pasty is not a pie!!!

Was at my friends wedding last night in Truro. He's Cornish, his wife is Jewish and from London. Most of the guest were from London and I had lots of fun educating people as to our ways. Also parts of the ceremony were in Cornish and Hebrew. Weird one! But this place is magical and I'm very fortunate to be able to earn a living down here.

Linux, glad you had a chat, but I have to stand by my earlier comments and those of several other people here. If she doesn't show up here, you've got issues. Hopefully it'll improve, but people's actions are a much better indicator than their words. Please just bear that in mind.

You expect her to make the concession to travel to Cornwall and choose you over London, but you're unwilling to make the same sacrifice?
If you loved her enough, would it matter where she was?
</devil'sadvocate>

Either way, glad things seem to be mended. :)
