John Cusack should never be tasked with saving us. He's much better at being awkward around women and making us laugh. I pray he only ever does that from now on.

What about Chuck Norris? Surely he can save us!!

2012 isn't the end of the world, bratty. The Mayan myth is concerned with the renewal of time; the ending of one period and the start of another.
Have a look at this - http://www.middletownjournal.com/news/n ... 41944.html

I get this incredible sense that the Earth is saying "Nope, too many people, bog off!"

Yeah, I was hoping the mass ritual suicides, we can expect from the nutters who actually believe in 2012, will tilt the balance and keep mother earth sweet for a while longer.

Gawd that was a crap film.

Since I read this thread this morning, I've been playing a wiki-links game, I started out reading a bit more about the various theories surrounding the Mayan calendar prohecy and through a variety of links which included http://www.thisistheend.com/ and http://www.corruptiontheory.com/ I came upon this website:

http://www.instituteforhumancontinuity.org/#/home

I have been flicking through it marvelling at people who are credulous enough to believe this stuff, until I was browsing the news a minute or so ago and came upon these two snippets:

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but surely that is Danny Glover at the top and Robert Pastorelli at the bottom?! If not, I know they're famous and I recognise the second bloke, even if I haven't got his name right.

I was disbeliving before, but now I'm amazed, blatently just making this up to take people in?!?! What credibility these guys lend to the overall Global Warming/Natural Disaster/End of the World theories.

Nobody consider the fact that NASA have been warning about solar flares?

If the magnetic poles are also in the process of switching it also means our protection from the flares will not be a full capacity.

Look to the sky for answers.

They're from the film 2012.....but you knew that, right?

And the second one is Oliver Platt.

That's his name. I knew I knew him, but I haven't seen 2012 (although I want to) so no I didn't know that :D
